Vehicle Description
The Triumph TR6 is one of the last great British roadsters. It
combines the features we enjoy such as a lively six-cylinder motor,
fully independent suspension, and a full interior. But it doesn't
betray the sprightly nature that makes us fall in love on the
backroads. Best of all, there have been a ton of investments within
the last 18 months to keep this one looking its best and running
strong.
We often see these convertibles in red, green, or white, so it's
distinctively nice to see this Triumph in a glossy regal shade of
factory-correct Imperial Blue. It was resprayed later in life, and
the good luster is exactly what you want on a sunshine-friendly
drop-top. In fact, as you look over this whole car, you'll see a
very straight and clear example in a very driver-ready package. The
low odometer is believed to reflect the full actual mileage, and so
you have a classic that has had more respect and less use. For many
of us in the USA, the TR6 seems to be the one really built for us.
The design was a continued evolution of the TR series, but now it
had more muscular fender lines. But there was also no mistaking its
heritage with a flat Kamm-back treatment that was also seen on the
larger Triumphs of the day. And what you'll love about this one are
the details. The more delicate chrome bumpers of these earlier TR6s
are highlighted by chrome overriders. The new redline tires are a
bold touch that stands out nicely.
While the black roof looks particularly stylish against the deep
blue, we particularly like the look of this one with the top down.
The Shadow Blue is another seldom-seen color, and the harmonizing
look against the dark blue exterior has a regal style that
perfectly represents this British convertible. There is a nice look
and feeling of quality inside where you have driver-oriented
details like an upgraded center console with plug and cup holder,
fresh leather wrap for the steering wheel, and new seat foam to
keep the high-back bucket seats extra comfortable. The sale even
comes with original details, like the courtesy light and radio. And
that wood dash full of crisp Smiths gauges make this one feel like
a true exotic. There have even been improvements made to the
roll-up windows and folding top so that you can button this one up
if the weather ever does turn wet.
British roadsters are often known for their fun on the road despite
being typically underpowered. But the TR6 was the true exception.
It has a 2.5-liter inline-six backed by dual Stromberg carburetors.
You'll love showing off the ultra-tidy presentation because you
also get to tell people this is the number-matching unit. The clean
style also signals that there was plenty invested here. We have a
two-page list detailing new components everywhere from the gas tank
to the exhaust added within the last two years. So you know that
means this has been looked over the full process from drawing in
the fuel all the way to when it sings from expelling the exhaust.
It's a terrific running powerhouse, and in a car that weighs barely
2,500 lbs, the acceleration is heart-racing. Part of this
versatility comes from the control you get from the four-speed
manual transmission, the confidence of newer bushings, and the
stopping power of front disc brakes. Take the long way home, and
you'll instantly fall in love with the way the sport suspension
handles in this lightweight drop-top. And take some time to view
this in the undercarriage photos. There you'll see a clean
representation of the fully independent setup.
The sale comes complete with two sets of keys, boxes of valuable
spare components, and multiple maintenance manuals. There's also
the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate that shows
its lineage. It all goes toward proving the level of investment and
care this cut-above classic has received. So if you're looking for
