1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible
I am always on the hunt for Oldsmobiles. I appreciate the way they drive and handle. I feel they are well appointed and offer a good value. This car is a very nice driver that still looks great.
I purchased this car from a Collector in the Philadelphia area. He told me that he loved to drive it because it was so effortless. He had installed new radial tires, a retro sound system with new speakers both front and rear and had been driving the car daily when the weather allowed.
This car has always been Nordic Blue. It spent its life in the NE part of the US. While the frame and floors are perfectly solid, there have been a couple of repairs. The lower portion of the driver’s fender had a patch panel installed and the panel beneath the rear of the top has been repaired. Both are common repairs. The car was repainted about twenty years ago using a base coat/clear coat finish. The combination of the fact that the car has been driven and that it was not a high end restoration causes me to label this as a driver quality car. If you prefer, let’s call it a “ten-footer”. Both bumpers have been replaced.
In addition to new tires and stereo, the brake master cylinder, booster and some lines were replaced. This car has front disc brakes. It stops perfectly. The convertible top was replaced as well as the hydraulic pump and lines. The rear window of the new top is glass. We have a new convertible boot on order.
I am told the mileage is actual at 65,874. Because there is no documentation to support this claim, the car is being sold as exempt of odometer disclosure. I do believe that the mileage claim could be true due to the condition of the interior.
I am not certain if the carpet and upholstery have been replaced. They are both in nice condition. I believe the dash and door panels to be original and they look nice. There is no degradation due to the sun.
The Rocket 350 V8 runs great. The four barrel Rochester carburetor works properly. The engine starts with ease. The THM 350 automatic transmission shifts properly. The rear end is open and contains 2.56:1 gears. This is a highways cruiser that should actually be fairly easy on fuel.
From the factory, this car was equipped with power steering, power brakes and power convertible top. It has tinted Soft-Ray glass. The upholstery has always been blue vinyl and the front seat is a notch back bench with folding center arm rest. There is a full set of seat belts.
The trunk contains a complete jack set with lug wrench and a spare tire. There are two sets of keys that actuate all locks. There is an Owner’s Manual in the glove box.
We took the car out for a nice hour long drive. It truly loves the freeway. I was very impressed at how effortless it is to drive. With the stereo cranked and the top down, you really appreciate the freedoms and joys of life.
I found another great driving Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible. It is reasonably priced because it is not a show car. Rather, it is a wonderful driver that will gather lots of thumbs up and looks.
