For Sale: 1974 Volkswagen Thing in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

These Things are so desirable and for many good reasons. The funnest car you can imagine driving. Going down the road with top down, doors off, windshield folded is so exhilarating. Perfect car for any type of vacation home or the beach. Very capable of off road. They are so easy to drive and maintain. Fits 5 passengers plus their belongings. Truly a people pleaser, you will get more smiles and waves then with any other car. Kids especially love going for a ride. I've driven everything from the Batmobile to a Hemi Cuda and nothing is as fun as the Thing!

EXTERIOR: The body and paint show very well. No rust or damage. Each door easily lifts right off. It was repainted a fun bright blue color. The paint job shows real well. The windshield folds flat. The convertible top is in overall very good condition and functional. It has a few small pinches. There is a full set of side curtain windows in excellent shape. I drove it with them on, they fit very well. It has upgraded swing open windows on the front doors. Upfront it has tubular crash bars and off road lamps. Has custom 15 inch wheels with chrome cones Wrangler Goodyear tires, they look new.

INTERIOR: Very versatile. It seats 5, the rear seats can fold flat for plenty of cargo space. The metal is all solid. The floors are painted black. The rest is painted blue. It has Swiss cheese rubber mats on the floor. The seats are reupholstered. It has seatbelts front and back. The glovebox compartment light, speedo and gas gauge works. It has a modern stereo with speakers in the kick panels.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The 4 cylinder motor runs great. It has a new Solex carburetor and fuel pump. The motor compartment was painted blue.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Solid metal painted blue. The gas tank and sending unit was replaced. The BFGoodrich tire on the spare has never been used. The weatherstrip was replaced.

UNDERSIDE: The front end was gone through. It looks like the ball joints, tie rod ends and shocks were replaced. It has independent suspension in back, new shocks. The floor pan is solid metal. It has a skid plate upfront.

Ready for fun? This Thing will deliver. Low maintenance, top down fun! I drove it home and it performs great.

Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
