In 1991 Chevrolet created an identity crisis with the C4 model
version. That crisis fueled by the standard C4 Coupe which this car
IS vs the C4 ZR-1 high performance version that was virtually
double the price, which this car is not. Problem is there are very
few differences between the two models with the price being the
biggest difference! So this one seems like a bargain.
This 1991 example a C4 Coupe is a self-described "old lady car".
Also, consigner states it's a two-owner car, and was never driven
in bad weather, as well as always garaged.
Exterior
The fiberglass body painted in Brilliant Red Metallic which is a
respray, covers the entire car. Paint is in good condition although
has some inclusions and mild areas of overspray. The large glass
hatchback shows no cracks or chips, as does the rest of the glass.
Turbine style factory wheels are on all 4 corners. Automatic flip
around hidden headlights reveal themselves when the light knob is
pulled. Also new for 1991 were square inserts for taillights which
are positioned in the neoprene rear panel of this car.
Interior
Covering the original saddle seats is now polyester broadcloth that
shows in red inserts and black bolsters. These seats are
grandmother approved (?!). Door panels are original and show with
buckskin molded plastic uppers, a curved black and gray molded
plastic insert with an armrest, door pull and some power controls
for the windows and side view mirror. Buckskin carpeting covers the
lowers and the floors as well as the rear storage area. Black vinyl
and brushed metal looking plastic cover a center console, and have
an aftermarket JVC stereo system, as well as push button climate
controls. In the center is a display screen that has numerous idiot
lights. An orange digital screen in the center of the dash shows
MPH, as well as a cascade of gauges. Dash top is in good condition
and is black.
Drivetrain
Lighting virtually the entire front end of the car forward reveals
a super clean engine bay and within its center sits a 5.7 liter V8.
It has EFI and on the back is a 700R4 4-speed automatic. The rear
axle weighs in at 2.59. Go Nanny Go!
Undercarriage
Showing nicely with some corrosion on the cast aluminum suspension
which in front is made up of a single fiberglass composite
mono-leaf transverse spring with unequal length aluminum controls
arms and a stabilizer bar. In back we see a fully independent 5
link system with transverse fiberglass single leaf springs,
aluminum upper/lower trailing links and astute rod tie rod
assembly. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners, and a dual
exhaust with stainless muffler exit pipes and chromed tips peeking
out the rear of the car.
Drive-Ability
This car ran smoothly, had decent acceleration and handled very
well. It does not have a granny gear!
Kid tested, grandmother approved this nicely preserved example C4
Corvette is ripe for the picking, and it will run on any day not
just Sunday.
