Vehicle Description
1983 Lotus Turbo Esprit is #44 of 50 "INVESTOR'S EDITION" Cars that
were specially designed and built to bring Lotus back to the
American Marketplace. All but a few of them were painted this
(Chrysler) two-tone silver with specific hand painted badging on
the driver's door, customizable silver plaques imbedded in the
steering wheel, specifically trimmed interiors, and removable -
venting glass sunroofs which would not become available on any
other Esprit for another few years. Additionally, each car's
engines and chassis were blueprinted (sadly, this paperwork is no
longer with this car). This car has just turned 36,000 and has been
meticulously maintained - especially by it owner previous to me who
is one of the country's most respected Esprit experts and resources
for information regarding the cars. Recent work - mostly under his
stewardship includes: It's all tuned up and the belts are fresh -
most importantly being the timing belt that was replaced with the
top-of-the-line GATE's BLUE BELT which allows for significantly
increased duration in time and mileage before requiring
replacement. The timing belt tensioner was rebuilt at that time as
well. Water pump and front main seal are reported to have been done
during these services as well. Valves clearances were checked and
deemed correct. We addressed some ignition timing issues and a new
vacuum capsule was made for the distributor and put in a new coil
and wires. Went through the distributor and replaced the internal
seals, the bushings are all still tight. The distributor has been
re-curved by Lotus Cars USA so the timing is no longer by the book.
It's currently set to the LCU recommendation which is still
conservative. All fluids have been flushed and filled. The timer
module for the engine venting is non-operational and replacements
are no longer available. This piece was strictly an attempt at
aiding in emissions reduction by venting excess heat over the
carbs.
