Lookin? for a solid highway cruiser, top up or down? This
Oldsmobile 98 Convertible might be a candidate for you. This
seldom-seen convertible is one of 4,568 two-door Olds 98 droptops
made in 1966. ?Value Luxury? was Oldsmobile?s ace-in-the-hole,
which enabled buyers who could not afford or did not want to spend
the extra money on a similar Buick or Cadillac model, to come home
with most or all of the same features. It underwent a complete
frame-off restoration in 2020. The work was performed by an
experienced restorer with a history of classic car restoration.
Assembled during the fourth week of February 1966 in General
Motors? Lansing, Michigan factory and dressed in new red paint, the
car?s exterior and trim are in overall excellent order, including a
new white, power-folding vinyl top. The body is straight, the
chrome bumpers are in very good order and fit tightly to the body,
the engine bay is extremely tidy, the cargo area is almost
immaculate and include a full-sized spare tire. This Olds rolls on
new Hankook Optimo white stripe radials, size 215/75R14, at every
corner. Each tire is mounted on a steel wheel, topped with original
factory wheel covers. The tires and wheel covers are all in very
good order and look great. Under the hood is a professionally
rebuilt 425 CID Super Rocket V-8 engine with a four-barrel
carburetor, 10.25:1 compression ratio and new, dual exhausts. The
previous owner states that the engine has approximately 200 miles
added since the rebuild. Other new or rebuilt engine parts include
the alternator and power steering pump. The power steering and
power brake systems have been refurbished and all suspension parts
have been repaired or replaced. Backing this motor is a a
professionally rebuilt Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic
transmission. Driver convenience features include factory
air-conditioning (converted to R134a from R12), power steering,
power brakes, power windows, power locks, driver?s side remote
sideview mirror (code F), six-way power front seats, power trunk
release (code S), tinted glass (code E), power antenna (code T) and
deluxe seat belts without one for the rear center (code Y). Inside,
this car sports an all-new interior. The front and rear bench seats
have been reupholstered in white vinyl, which contrasts nicely with
the red exterior. A fold-down center armrest completes the front
seat. There?s new black carpet underneath, with custom floor mats.
A two-spoke steering wheel is present, helping to frame the
futuristic-looking dash Olds used during that period, complete with
faux wood paneling. The inner door panels and instrument panel are
all in very good condition and there?s a column-mounted shifter.
The original AM/FM radio with vacuum tubes completes the interior.
Convertible competition to this Olds in 1966 included AMC?s
Ambassador, Buick?s Electra 225 and Riviera, Cadillac?s Coupe de
Ville and Eldorado, Chrysler?s 300, Dodge?s Polara, Ford?s
Thunderbird, Lincoln?s Continental, Mercury?s Park Lane and
