Chevrolet’s mid-sized Chevelle ranks amongst most popular, recognizable, and iconic muscle cars of the 1960s and 70s. First introduced for the 1964 model year, the Chevelle was offered in response to strong competition from Ford’s mid-sized Fairlane and the compact Rambler which were eroding sales of the Chevy II and Corvair. The Chevelle was an instant hit, selling nearly 340,000 examples in its first year alone. The original A-body platform remained in production from 1964-1967, seeing one major restyling along the way. For 1968, Chevy completely redesigned the Chevelle with a distinct, rounded body that, with minor year-to-year changes, would remain the mainstay of the Chevy line through 1972. Over the course of production, Chevrolet would fit everything from the mundane inline six to the fire breathing 454 into the Chevelle, and owners would get even more creative, with countless examples modified for show, street, and racing.
This 1971 Chevelle SS is an authentic representation of the muscle car era, presenting in original and good condition. The Chevelle SS is finished in Mulsanne Blue with White Stripe (Code# 26 26) over a Black interior. It believed the car is a genuine Chevelle SS (13637 code), equipped with the original and very desirable 454 cubic inch big block V8 (LS5 - 365hp) and a non-original M-22, 4-speed transmission (engine code CPA).
Aside from its impressive technical specification, the body presents in pristine condition. Finished in original Mulsanne Blue with White stripes, the Chevelle looks outstanding in the metal, featuring straight panels and proper body alignment. The overall appearance of the paintwork appears in superior condition. The all-black interior features bucket seats and a center console in distinguished condition including carpet and door panels. Fittings include A/C, radio, and seat belts for front and rear passengers.
With any Chevelle, it is what’s under the hood that matters. This car is fitted with an original 454 engine – 365HP (LS5), topped with a 4 bbl carburetor. Power is sent through a no original M-22 four-speed transmission. Other features include original Cowl Induction hood with working cowl, power steering and power brakes. The suspension and undercarriage are well detailed and clean, in keeping with the rest of this fine car. It has been driven and enjoyed on a regular basis, having been well maintained.
