Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1980 Shay Super Deluxe
Roadster, a replica of the 1929 Ford Model A. The Shay Model A is a
factory-built replica authorized by the Ford Motor Company,
originally sold through Ford dealerships and backed by a Ford
12,000-mile / one-year new car warranty. Faithful in appearance to
the 1929 Model A, it featured a modern chassis and drivetrain with
much better driving dynamics than the original.
This example is a super deluxe roadster with dual fender-mounted
spare tires, and it's believed to be only one of six triple white
"Polar Bear" editions. With fewer than 6,000 miles on the odometer,
there is very little wear showing on this remarkably original and
well-preserved example. Paint, body, chrome, wheels and glass are
in good condition, as is the convertible top and removable side
curtains. Optioned with front and rear heater (so occupants riding
in the rumble seat in cool weather can stay warm).
Under the hood is Ford's 2.3 liter overhead cam four cylinder mated
to a four-speed manual transmission (considerably more advanced
than the Model A's flathead four-cylinder mated to a three-speed
non-synchronized gearbox). Paired with rack-and-pinion steering,
independent front suspension and front disk brakes, the result is
car that comfortably cruises at highway speeds. The power delivery,
steering, braking and overall handling are vastly improved over the
original Model A. Recent service includes a new brake master
cylinder and a new timing belt.
A Shay Roadster is a great candidate for the buyer who appreciates
the classic styling of a Model A but wants a more modern driving
experience. For more information about this 1980 Shay / 1929 Model
A for sale at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, please call
