Vehicle Description
This 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL is a one-owner, low-mileage
preserved coupe. And while you'll love the dark and sleek look of
this fuel-injected classic, you'll want to take some time to
appreciate how special this particular example is.
The story that we're told is that this was first used as a
promotional vehicle by Mitsubishi, including for some sales
literature. It was also featured as part of the display with Boyd
Coddington's Mitsubishi-powered Alumacoupe. While we don't have
verified proof of this, the timelines do seem to come together, and
this also wears a set of similar Boyds wheels as on the Alumacoupe.
What we also do know is that you're looking at a carefully kept
one-owner classic. The Obsidian Black is the factory original
application, and since this car has averaged only about 1,000 miles
annually, it has the clean look worthy of the coupe's bold lines.
The 3000GT is one of those great wind-cheating designs with pop-up
headlights that give you a sleek flat front. The factory body kit
had enough brake cooling ducts to make this look like a racecar,
and the full-width rear spoiler appears track-ready, too. These had
one of the sportiest looks of the era, and so we often see them get
enjoyed a little bit too much. That's why finding such a crisp,
clean, and well-respected example like this is a standout for more
than just its story.
The interior is just as fresh and preserved. It showcases a nice
mix of comfort and technology. A modern classic means bucket seats
with plenty of bolstering, and these are clean and complete, right
down to the distinct textured inserts. Yours even power adjusts.
This has a nice performance attitude with a large speedo and tach
directly in front of you, and all the auxiliary readouts are at eye
level. You have all the best modern comfort features, too, like
power windows, power locks, driver's airbag, tilt steering column,
cruise control, and the factory AM/FM/CD stereo. The air
conditioning is blowing cold, and we love the look of the digital
readout on the automatic climate control. It all makes for the
right merging of luxury and technology that were the hallmark of
1990s Japanese sports cars.
The engine bay looks as clean as you would expect a cherished and
maturely maintained sports car to be. Everything is correctly in
place, right down to the decals. And on this one-owner car, it's
hard to believe it's anything by the original powerhouse. This
fuel-injected 3.0-liter 24-valve V6 is the envy of the new classic
imported performance car scene. Mitsubishi are masters at this kind
of multi-valve motor. So this has plenty of low-end power, and it
always feels like there's more power in reserve even at highway
speeds. Plus, you have an all-around great anytime driver with the
fully independent suspension, power steering, four-wheel disc
brakes, and four-speed automatic transmission w/overdrive. We even
have a receipt from 2020 for over $5k for proper maintenance on
fundamentals like the A/C, coolant, and fuel injectors. It makes
for a terrific driver, and so we know you won't be able to resist
adding to the low odometer.
The sale comes complete with the dealer invoice, full owner's
manual packet, sales literature, and maintenance receipts. This is
the new class of modern classic vehicles, and so you know the
desire for such a well-preserved example is only going to grow.
