Vehicle Description
Here is a really original example of a Silver Shadow Long Wheel
Base ("LWB") sedan. Finished in Old Ivory with black Everflex top
and red finelines to the waist-rails and beauty rings. The interior
has strong contrasting ebony Connolly hides with matching Wilton
carpets throughout. The same ebony theme carries through to the
boot. The LWB is 4" longer than the standard sedan providing
considerably increased rear passenger leg room. It easily
identified by the standard fitment Everflex top and small (opera)
rear window. This is an unmolested original presenting example that
has been maintained by a Rolls-Royce enthusiast and collector with
the car taken to many shows and displays. It is primarily all
original with no modifications - right down to the original Pioneer
8-track cassette player. It was owned by an Illinois enthusiast and
yet has never been used outside of sunny, summer weather driving.
As a result, it has been freed from the perils of harsh weather and
is very clean underneath. It has always been well maintained and
serviced by authorized Rolls-Royce agents and comes with its
original manual. The body on this Silver Shadow is very straight
and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The car still sports much of
its original paint. When you look down the sides of the car, they
are very straight and true. The paint presents beautifully with
only the most minor little mark here and there from use but
consistent with a low-mileage car. It does display some of the
typical paint cracking in the lead-wiping areas of the car (A & C
pillars) which is common to not a few, but ALL original Silver
Shadows. (Rolls-Royce used a process of 'lead-wiping" to join body
panels, so with the different metallurgic properties of lead,
steel, and aluminium, the over-lying paint would fracture in these
places). It needs nothing other than a wax from time to time. The
Everflex top is its original from the factory. It does have a
couple of small moisture bubbles at the leading and rear edges of
the roof top but these are minor and in our opinion the overall
clean presentation of the Everflex, and the fact it is original,
far outweighs this. The interior of this Silver Shadow is in simply
delightful condition. The black Connolly hide leather is 100%
original from the factory. It has been recently and ever-so=lightly
re-Connolised and is in absolutely outstanding condition with no
tears nor fading and very supple and soft - true to its Connolly
characteristics. The leather really has been lovingly preserved,
remains incredibly soft and supple (not like the card-board feel of
many Silver Shadows) and has just the right amount of patina with
lovely leather creases and folds. The burr walnut wood throughout
the car is beautiful. They are all completely original and have not
been redone. Although not flawless (not a word you can use
flippantly) but in excellent condition with only minor
imperfections on the front door cappings, showing the typical
hairline cracks in the clear veneer as most of these cars display.
There are also a few on the main dash area. Certainly stunning for
a 45 year old Rolls-Royce and quite acceptable as is. The colour is
deep, the grain rich and the finish smooth. The soft grey pure wool
broad-cloth head lining is all original and in fantastic condition
without any stains or soiling. Likewise, is the Ambla finish to the
dash and top-roll. The matching black Wilton wool carpets are in
excellent condition and in a nice "unused" condition. The boot
(trunk) carpet with the same theme is also in great condition. The
car does have a 1980's car phone fitted which we think is rather
cool, but can easily be removed if you prefer. The only thing we
would prefer not to see is the extra speakers in the front doors.
This was a poor choice by a previous owner but could be removed and
remediated. Please enquire if you wish us to do so. The Silver
Shadow presented here has been work-shop inspected where all work
