Jaguar would probably be the world's most admired manufacturer. €"
New York Times, February 1998 The New York Times review continued:
Jaguars are more about graceful shapes, supple ride comfort and
classic drawing room-type cabins. The new XJ8 has all those
virtues, but its new V8 is also terrific. It's smooth and light and
compact. The only downside is fuel consumption, which can be
worryingly immoderate if pushed. The German-built ZF automatic
transmission is smooth enough, if not quite as quick-shifting and
seamless as the better BMW or Mercedes engine-transmission
combinations... The ride quality is outstanding, and the handling
is surprisingly assured too, considering the car's bulk. Offered
here is a 1998 Jaguar XJ.8 L (long-wheelbase) in British Racing
Green over tan leather. Showing 119,467 miles on its odometer, the
big Jaguar has traveled just under 5,200 miles per-year on average
since new. Carfax records show consistent, routine, professional
service over the XJ8's life. As the car's exemplary condition
clearly shows, this is a properly cared-for, lovingly maintained,
two-owner, European uber-luxury automobile, as beautiful today as
it was the day it was first delivered. The Jaguar's VIN decoding
shows its full equipment list: Powertrain- 4.0L (244) DOHC SPFI
