Vehicle Description
1991 Shelby Cobra Roadster
The rare car market can be fraught with inconsistency, lost
documents, and make it difficult for one to discern what is
original and what is not. Then you have a 40-60 year old vehicle to
contend with mechanically, and there is a learning curve there as
well. A rare car is a wonderful thing if you can afford it, and it
is truly well documented. Enter the kit car era, where one can get
a replica body, put in what they want, and viola! They have an
original looking rare car but totally drivable with little worries
about maintenance.
This Shelby Cobra kit car in racing form, (side pipes, No Bumpers,
Roll Bar), arrives in Acapulco Blue and has painted white stripes.
It's wicked fast, sporting a consignor-stated 347ci V8, and claims
it puts out 450hp. It's well done, and certainly a head turner.
Exterior
This beauty is bathed in Acapulco Blue Metallic and has dual wide
white stripes running through its center. Nicely rounded fenders
which have wide wheel wells to accommodate the big 15-inch faux
knockoffs wrapped in BFG raised white letter Radial T/A's. A
stainless-steel roll bar is mounted into the frame and is behind
the driver. Black side pipes snake out from just aft of the front
wheel well and melt into a large black pipe which blows just before
the rear wheel well, running along the rockers. No bumpers, just
black push bars for front and rear, and a chromed mirror and
windshield surround add a bit of bling to the blue.
Interior
Black vinyl bomber style buckets mimic the original. The small
driver's compartment is covered in black carpet. The buckets are
equipped with G-Force 5-point racing belts. A very nice full
fiberglass body matching dash front is gauge encrusted and has
plenty of toggles and some air vents. This car has a heater with a
3-speed fan that blows toward the driver and passenger. Fronting
the dash is a wood rimmed rally wheel, and just to drivers right on
the hump is a small Hurst manual shifter. Door panels and glove box
cover are in black smooth vinyl.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 347ci Ford racing crate engine. It is backed by
a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission and topped with a thirst
quenching 750 cfm Holley double pumper carburetor. On the back
making the tires spin is a Ford 8.8-inch 4.11 gear rear axle.
Undercarriage
All nice, structurally sound and no rust. Softer coil over shocks
have been put on. and in addition to the 4 wheel disc brakes an
inboard driveshaft parking disc brake is now installed.
Drive-Ability
A quick fire up and warm up and off to the test track where this
car was right at home. Fabulous acceleration, neck snapping
cornering, and solid bias free braking. Note the alt gauge is
broken, the fuel gauge reads 3/4 when it's full and the horn is in
op.
We could rate this car top wrenched, because it has an all buttoned
up power plant, no rust and snappy interior. Love the Acapulco Blue
paint, wide stripes and black side pipes, and it truly handles like
it's on rails. Go ahead, make your day.
