Vehicle Description
1988 Volkswagen Double-cab Syncro Pickup
For 1988, Volkswagen's lineup of Transporters consisted of three
body styles, Van, Pickup and Double-cab Pickup. The rear-engine and
rear-wheel drive layout made for a stable vehicle in most
conditions, however an all-wheel-drive "Syncro" was offered for
those needing serious traction. This particular Syncro was ordered
in Pastel White and fitted with Front Floor Mats, Bold Graphic
Accent Pin Stripe, Power Remote Mirrors - Heatable, and Power
Steering. It is one of ten that were purchased when new by a
Canadian oil company from authorized Volkswagen dealer, Speedway
Motors, of Victoria B.C. After less than a year in service, the
Syncros were sold back to the dealer from which they were
originally purchased and offered again for sale. In August 1989,
this one was sold to a Ms. Canfield with just 10,150 kilometers on
the odometer. Ms. Canfield (the second owner) kept the Syncro until
June 2013 when she sold it to an American with 35,088 original
kilometers. The American used it in B.C. for a short period of time
and then shipped it to his home in California. Once there, he
commenced a mechanical refurbishment that included complete
rebuilds of the braking system, differentials, suspension, and an
engine rebuild with a 2.3L GoWesty kit. The work was completed late
in 2013 and has received proper maintenance during the 6,000
kilometers since it was performed. In addition to being
mechanically sound, the body is in excellent condition and wears
mostly original paint. The interior is all original and shows very
little wear. The engine runs smoothly, and the gearbox shifts as it
should. The wheels have been upgraded for slightly larger ones that
wear beefy BF Goodrich all-terrain tires.
Included in the sale are the original window sticker, sales invoice
when owner #2 purchased it from the dealer, service and restoration
records, owner's manual, and marketing materials.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle cannot be registered in California and
the CARFAX has some mileage/kilometer inconsistencies.
