North America between 1989 and 1994 and one of 2,119 sold in 1991.
Car was originally purchased at Shelly BMW in Buena Park,
California and stayed in California until 2015. Previous owner had
the car for the past six years. This California BMW is now in the
Midwest. Finished in desirable Calypso Red Pearl (code 252) with
black accents, the car?s paint and trim are in overall very good
order. The bodywork is as solid and straight as one could expect
from a BMW out of Cali. The toolkit is complete and there is a
factory cellular phone included. The engine bay is very tidy, the
body-colored bumpers with foglights within fit tightly to the body
while the cargo area is clean and in very good order. This 8-series
coupe rolls on brand new Pirelli P Zero tires, size 245/40/18
fronts, 285/35/18 in the rear and each tire is wrapped around BMW
M-Parallel 18? staggered wheels with BMW center caps. Under the
hood is BMW?s 5.0L SOHC aluminum V-12 engine with 60? between
cylinder banks (code M70B50), equipped with a WOKKE performance
chip, MSD ignition, distributor, rotor and plugs. and custom
exhaust system with quad exhausts. Linked to this motor is a ZF
four-speed automatic transmission (code 4HP24) and a refurbished
driveshaft. Driver convenience features include automatic climate
control; cruise control; power rack-and-pinion steering; power
four-wheel disc brakes; power windows; power locks; power sideview
mirrors; dual-zone climate control; auto-dimming review mirror; and
sunroof. Safety equipment includes dual front airbags and anti-lock
brakes. Inside, the car?s Parchment leather interior (code 356) is
in overall very good order. The front buckets look great, as does
the matching carpet and headliner. The leather-wrapped, four-spoke
steering wheel houses an airbag while the instrument panel and
inner door liners echo the condition of the rest of the interior.
There?s a matching center armrest with integrated storage. The
factory air condition is complete and functions but blows cool and
not cold. A factory, 12-speaker AM/FM stereo with CD changer in the
trunk and cassette deck. The 8 Series was designed to move beyond
the market of the original 6 Series. The 8 Series had substantially
improved performance, as well as a far higher purchase price. BMW
used computer-aided design (CAD) tools, still unusual at the time,
to design the car's all-new body. Combined with wind tunnel
testing, the resulting car had a drag coefficient of 0.29, a major
improvement from the previous BMW M6/635CSi's 0.39. It was one of
the first vehicles to be fitted with an electronic drive-by-wire
throttle. The 8 Series was one of BMW's first cars, together with
the Z1, to use a multi-link rear axle. Documentation includes
original window sticker, original owner?s manual, original service
booklet, original service directory, original roadside assistance
and other booklets in a binder. Competition to this 850i in 1991
included Acura?s NSX, Aston Martin?s Virage, Chevrolet?s Corvette,
Jaguar?s XJR-S, Maserati?s 228, Nissan?s 300ZX and Porsche?s 928
