Vehicle Description
CPR Classic is elated to offer this stunning 1959 Porsche 356
Convertible D that underwent a complete, ground-up, every nut and
bolt restoration here at CPR Classic. Finished in the gorgeous
color combination of Fjord Green over a fawn leather interior, this
Convertible D is a head-turner from all angles.
CPR purchased the car back in 2011 from an owner in Oregon and
stored the car for several years before performing the thorough
restoration the car now wears. The car arrived to us as a complete,
straight example with minimal rust.
First, the car was completely disassembled and stripped to bare
metal by hand. Then the tub entered our metal shop, where it was
metal worked and brought back to factory specifications in all
areas. Lead was added where needed, and all panel gaps were set to
factory standards. The tub received new floors for cosmetic
purposes as the originals were fairly weathered from years of
use.
Following the metalwork process, the tub was moved to our paint
preparation shop, where it spent several hundred hours being
sealed, primed, and extensively blocked to ensure laser-straight
panels with an excellent foundation for the paint to be applied.
The undercarriage was undercoated to factory standards and finished
in the correct shade of black. A final layer of primer was added,
and then the last block was performed before the stunning Fjord
Green Glasurit paint was applied. Following paint application, the
tub was baked in our Binks down-draft paint booth to ensure a
strong chip-resistant finish. Finally, a full color-sand and buff
was performed to complete the process and give the tub the vibrant,
deep finish you see now.
Following paint, the car was partially assembled before being sent
to Autobahn Interiors in Sorrento Valley to have the entire fawn
leather interior installed. Correct square weave carpet was
installed, and a tan top with a tan tonneau cover was done to
complete the aesthetic. The car then returned to CPR, and the final
assembly process was completed.
The drivetrain was completely overhauled during the restoration.
The gearbox was sent to Rancho Performance, where it received a
complete overhaul, including a new gear set, synchros, bearings,
main shaft, and a detailed blasting and refinish to the case. The
engine was overhauled in-house at CPR and upgraded with a 1720cc
big bore kit. The engine now produces near 100hp and allows the car
to drive comfortably at highway speeds.
The car was then driven 300 miles for break-in and tuning purposes
before being delivered to its most recent owner, a Washington State
resident, in 2018. The vehicle lived for three years in Washington,
only covering 670 miles during this time. The car now shows just
970 miles since its complete restoration and remains in
outstanding, fully restored condition.
This 356 Convertible D is one of the finest restored 356s we have
ever produced. The level of finish is second to none, and the car
drives better than new in all facets. It is a must-consider example
if you are in the market for an as-new 356 Convertible D that can
be driven worry-free or shown with outstanding success.
