For Sale: 1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk in Stamford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk.

This original Silver Hawk has been in the same family since the mid 90's and was purchased back in Colorado from the original owner.

Interestingly enough, the surname of the current owner is Studebaker and can trace his roots back to one of the original 5 Studebaker brothers, Henry, who built the first wagons that would eventually become the Studebaker Automobile Company. As a matter of fact, it is believed that Henry is his Great, Great, Great Grandfather.

1959 was the swan song for the Silver Hawk, becoming just the Hawk in 1960.

Introduced in 57 along with the supercharged Golden Hawk, it was part of the "luxury sport coupe" lineup that Studebaker wanted to offer along side it's more plain Jane sedans.

This Silver Hawk has only had the tires, battery, shock absorbers and exhaust replaced in it's 62 years on the planet, in which she's covered 73K miles. The front seat has been covered but holds the original pleated cloth underneath. The original black paint shows those 62 years in some scratches and chips in the paint but due to being garage kept and well cared for, she is rust/rot free on her body and frame. The exhaust will need to be replaced again, as the Cherry Bomb/Blue Streak glass pack mufflers are showing some rust holes as is the slotted pipe from the mufflers back. The 259 V8 is the 4 barrel equipped 195 HP  version and moves the car along rather well, attached to a three speed manual, "3 on the tree". The linkage of which will need a little attention as she tends to pop out of first gear.

The 4 wheel drum brakes stop the car easily enough and once moving the manual steering is pretty easy. The car starts, goes and stops, however, there is an unidentified electrical draw that pulls on the battery, so the owner simply keeps the battery disconnected. The passenger window has a crack.

This car can be driven as is and with some deep cleaning and TLC can be a very reliable classic cruiser to take out in all her original glory, patina and survivor status being all the rage these days. One can forego all that though and remove all that originality and dive right into a restoration, which this would be a great foundation for.

Very solid car, running and driving and just too much authenticity to not enjoy as she is.

For $12,000 you too can become part of the Studebaker family.
