1922 Chandler Six, Seven Passenger Touring Car
VIN: 121210
Incorporated in 1913, with Frederick C. Chandler as President, The Chandler Motor Company was headquartered, along with its factory, in Cleveland, Ohio. Chandler concentrated on producing a good quality motor-car within the price range of middle class Americans.
By 1922, chandler produced a line-up of 10 cars ranging from $1495 to $2395 and the cars were well received in the market. In 1929, due to over over-aggressive expansion, the Chandler Motor Car Company found itself deep in debt and ultimately sold to Hupp Motor Car Company for it's manufacturing facility and the Chandler brand was discontinued.
Chandler, like most cars built before all-steel bodies became the industry standard in the mid-1930s, used bodies built with a metal skin around a wooden frame. After a few decades the wood tended to degrade; because of this Chandlers have survived in smaller numbers than some other popular automobiles of the era that used all-steel bodies. Fine examples of Chandlers are sought after collector automobiles.
This rare Chandler Six 7 Passenger Touring Car is coming out of an estate. Limited history is known on the car as presented below:
- Estimated Three Owner Car
- Complete, high level restoration at some point in its history
- Solid Wood Frame with Good Sheet Metal
- Solid wood spoke wheels with 4 matching hubcaps
- Six cylinder engine
- Manual Transmission
- Two tone paint scheme with burgundy body and black fenders
- Vinyl seats with correct carpet
- Vinyl top in excellent condition
- Rear Window is beveled glass
The engine appears to have been subject to a rebuild during the restoration, but this can not be confirmed. The motor turns over freely with the starter, and the engine will fire when primed. The decision was made to leave the starting and driving of the car to the next curator of this fine piece of motoring history.
