This 1939 Pontiac Deluxe reminds us there's just something about
the handsome lines of a pre-war car that make great custom
machines. And while you'll admire some subtly cool details, like
the two-tone metallic paint, the best treat is even more incognito.
Because underneath that classic hood is a well-built small block V8
with supercharger on top.
The color package sets the tone nicely for this car. The light blue
and gray don't look out of place on a design celebrating over 80
years. And the metallic element may be modern, but its largest
benefit is how it allows the sunlight to radiate off the fenders,
hood, and all the other curves of this trunkback Pontiac.
Well-fitting panels, correct badging, and chrome bumpers (with
Pontiac logo in the rear one) give this a nice vintage nostalgia.
There are hints at the power within, like sport mirrors, blue-dot
taillights, smootie wheels, and the staggered tire sizes to give
this a more intimidating stance. But overall, this one just has the
look of a clean and complete classic.
The interior is a well-done mix of vintage and new. The seats have
the classic button-top design, but the fresher feeling tells you
there has been a more recent investment here. The door panels were
even done to match. The carpeting and headliner keep that
old-school style feeling, too. But as you look at the dash, it
becomes quite clear there's far more technology than any pre-war
car had. You have an AM/FM/CD/DVD stereo system that includes
Bluetooth and a flip-up screen for the backup camera. There are
also provisions for R134a air conditioning (may just need a charge
to blow fully cold again.). The three-spoke steering wheel looks
like it's from the muscle car era, and so it has a nice and grippy
feel. It's mounted on a tilt column to give you a clear view to the
Stewart Warner gauge package. This classic has even been upgraded
with cruise control!
Is upgraded with proper small block power. This 350 cubic-inch V8
was rebuilt and balanced. It has some nice upgrades like a
four-barrel carburetor, modified heads with 2.02-inch valves,
Wolverine cam, and headers feeding the dual exhaust. And while
that's already plenty of power to move most of us down the road,
this special classic has a 4-71 supercharger added on top! There
are also nice supporting pieces, like a Painless wiring harness,
Accel Super Coil, steel braided lines, an electric fan, and Mickey
Thompson finned valve covers. The three-speed automatic
transmission was built with B&M components for a stouter
construction. But this also helps make it an easier cruiser. So
does the updated Nova independent front end, power steering, and
power brakes.
Complete with build receipts, this is the great-looking classic
that's also an incognito speed machine. So when you find something
