Car and Driver waxed eloquent in their praise for the car they'd later name to the magazine's ''10 Best'' list: ''Everywhere we went, folks would overtorque their vertebrae to catch a glimpse of our blazing-red test car as we whisked by. We'd leave it in a suburban shopping-mall parking lot for five minutes and there'd be people pressing their noses against the side glass. This is the kind of attention normally lavished on Ferraris, so it's clear that Pontiac's new mid-engined, plastic-skinned two-seater stirs the public into bouts of heavy breathing.''

Offered here is a beautifully kept 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT in black over black. Since new, the car has traveled just 18,201 miles, a remarkably low 525 miles-per-year on average. Combined with its almost-new, true survivor condition, this Fiero is a perfect representative of one of the Pontiac Division's final automotive innovations, a car true to the brand's ''We build excitement'' theme.
The Fiero's well-chosen exterior black paint makes the most of the car's design. Gloss is even and shine is deep across every panel. There is no damage to the sheet metal ... oops!... plastic body panels, and it goes without saying, absolutely no rust. The black bodyside shows no scrapes or abrasion. The car is virtually free of chrome trim with window surrounds, mirror caps, and other trim pieces in black. Headlight lenses are clear and uncracked, and the full-width smoked taillight lens is likewise free of damage.
Inside, the color scheme is a well-coordinated dark gray and light gray (aka ''silver.'') The overall look is modern with square-shaped design cues and an upright instrument pod. Seat upholstery on the twin high-back buckets is a handsome and very well-maintained combination of dark-gray outer portions with light-gray inserts. The upholstery-fabric surface is an appealing tweed-weave. Door trim combines light-gray panels with medium-gray carpet on the lower surfaces. Cabin carpeting is similarly medium-gray in color, and protected by Fiero GT-embroidered carpet mats. A two-spoke sport steering wheel (with Fiero GT ''rising Phoenix'' center emblem) fronts a straightforward instrument cluster with large speedometer, 5,500-rpm-redline tachometer, auxiliary engine-monitoring gauges, and vertically arranged warning lights. The centerstack includes HVAC controls above the factory audio unit with equalizer. The console hosts an angled T-bar shift lever for the automatic transmission, controls for the power windows and mirrors, and raised rear-console storage compartment. Cabin glass is clear and uncracked; the smoked-glass sunroof is free of any damage. Indeed, every interior surface remains in excellent condition owing to fastidious owner care and very limited use.
The Fiero's build and identification tags remain mounted. Multiple car care and car-protection products, including a car cover, are included in the sale.
