For Sale at Auction: 1983 Jeep CJ7 in Billings, Montana

Vehicle Description

1983 Jeep Laredo CJ7

VIN:  1JCCM87E4DT062022

In 1944, Willys-Overland, one of the two main manufacturers of the World War II military Jeep, built the first prototypes for a commercial version – the CJ, short for "Civilian Jeep".  After remaining in production through a range of model numbers and several corporate parents, the Jeep CJ line was officially ended in 1986. But not before more than 1.5 million CJ Jeeps were built, having continued the same basic body style for 45 years since the Jeep first appeared.  The Jeep CJs have been described as "probably the most successful utility vehicle ever made."

The CJ7 line was produced from 1976-1986, having a 10" longer wheel base than the CJ5.  Frame modifications were made to accommodate better suspension.  To help improve vehicle handling and stability, the rear section of the chassis stepped out to allow the springs and shock absorbers to be mounted closer to the outside of the body.

The Jeep CJ7 presented at auction features the Laredo package that was offered in the CJ-7 line from 1982 to 1986.  Distinguished by their different body decals, the Laredo model featured highback leather bucket seats, a tilting steering wheel, and a chrome package that included the bumpers, front grill cover, and side mirrors.

A three owner Jeep, this CJ7 received a complete restoration.  The odometer shows 88,300 miles and are reported to be actual.  The body and interior show very well and the Jeep features the following:

- Chrome Grill, Bumpers and Grill

- 4.2L, 258ci V-6 rebuilt approx. 3000 miles ago

- 4 Speed Manual Transmission

- Upgraded interior features a Tachometer and Clock

- New Interior Upholstery including Seats and Door Panels

- Complete Laredo Graphics

These Jeeps are getting hard to find in this kind of condition.  The Jeep runs and drives great, however the owner reports the transmission or clutch may need attention as an unidentified noise just recently surfaced.  The car runs and drives fine with a noise upon release of the clutch
