Authentic LS6 Super Sport Chevelle with original matching-numbers
engine, authenticated by Jerry MacNeish in 2021. Restored in
original Tuxedo Black (trim tag code 19) with white sport stripes
and black vinyl bench front seat (code 755) with headrests. The
potent LS6 454/450hp engine (assembled January 22) featured 4-bolt
main caps, forged aluminum pistons, forged steed rods and
crankshaft, solid lifters, closed chamber heads and a 11.25:1
compression ratio; This example features a correct aluminum intake
(casting #3963569 with Winters snowflake) and Holley 780cfm
4-barrel carburetor (List-4557, dated 9B3 - third week of December
1969) CRV suffix and matching partial VIN pad stamp (T0122CRV
10R207985), M22 4-speed manual transmission (casting #3925661),
exhaust manifolds (#3909879 L and #3916178 R) and GM 12-bolt rear
end (casting #3969278) with 4.10:1 gears and (G80) posi-traction
(ratio and posi confirmed, despite CCW stamping on axle housing).
The car features mostly all correct OEM and NOS parts, including
distributor (#1111437 dated 9M10, upgraded with Pertronix pointless
ignition for improved performance), distributor cap
(#1971244/D308R/Patent pending "R"), starter motor (#1108418 dated
9M29), alternator (#1100837), coil (#1115293, 293 B-R), power brake
booster (#9391 dated 328) and fuel pump (#40727). Options include
(D88) hood and deck stripes, (N40) power steering, (A02) soft-ray
tinted windshield, (D34) visor vanity mirror, (U14) specie
instrumentation with correct 7000 rpm tach (6500 redline), (U35)
electric clock, (U69) AM/FM PB radio, (Z15) SS 454 equipment,
including special domed/cowl hood, round gauge pods in dash, dual
exhaust, power front disc brakes, F70-14 RWL tires (repo Goodyear
Polyglas), correct "AO" stamped 14x7 SS wheels, wheel opening
molds, black-accented grille, black resilient rear bumper panel,
bright engine accents, 12-bolt rear end, and (V01) IF- and
XJ-stamped Harrison 4-row HD radiator (#3016678, broadcast code PA
for LS6 4-speed with 4.10:1 axle) with proper spot-welded upper and
lower supports, deep groove accessory drive pulleys and HD steering
shaft, and (F41) special chassis features (required with LS6).
Included with sale are boxed lower-rear control arms, HD springs
and shocks, rear frame supports and 1.25-inch front stabilizer bar
- all present on the car. The Chevelle also features a dual-snorkel
air cleaner, Hurst shifter (original Muncie shifter in trunk), and
an LOF windshield (dated 1969), T3 headlights, Delco R59 battery
(reproduction), and correct radiator cap, GM belts and hoses, plug
wires (Packard TV R suppression dated 3-Q-69), 7-blade cooling fan
(#914087), seat belts and A.O. Smith frame (#3960733 dated January
26). The trim tag indicates the body was assembled the first week
of February at the Arlington plant as an original Tuxedo Black
example. The car was subjected to a frame-off restoration circa
2010 and features the original GM sheet metal (verified by Mark
Bannert, owner of Collision Craftsman), with correct tags and
markings. The car is an example of the highest factory horsepower
rating (450hp) of the muscle car era and was previously included in
the Rick Davis Collection. No original documentation accompanies
the car.
