Vehicle Description
2001 Chrysler Prowler
The Prowler was produced at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in
Detroit where they are built alongside the Dodge Viper production
line with the body produced in Shadyside, Ohio. Beginning in
January 2001, it was branded a Chrysler vehicle. The Prowler has
the distinction of being North America's most aluminium-intensive
vehicle. The last 300 Prowlers were painted Deep Candy Red. The
color features a new paint technology in its pearl coat that will
actually make the car sparkle in bright light.
For consignment a "retro rod" similar to an aftermarket hot rod
body being built from the ground up with all the trimmings, only
this one comes to us directly from a factory, the Chrysler factory.
Only 24,267 actual miles are on this unique facet of automobilia
from a major manufacturer.
Exterior
Whilst using predominantly aluminum panels and adhesive to blend
them together, this prowler is in excellent condition, with no rust
or fillers, all original. Panels were then coated in Midnight Pearl
Metallic. With its Indy style front wheels and suspension with
added floating fenders that magically turn with the wheels, to its
modern yet retro stylings, chopped drop top in black canvas, and
curved back trunk, you are in 1932/2001 heaven!, Peabody. This car
comes to us complete with front bumpers in black and is sitting on
front 17-inch polished alloys and rear 18-inch alloys. Drop the
handkerchief doll baby.
Interior
Black leather abounds with the buckets sitting proudly and in near
showroom condition. These flank a center console which houses a
glovebox, cupholder, and autostick (a shift mounted version of the
Tiptronic gear shift. ) Keeping in tune with other earlier rods,
this has a center elongated blue painted oval which houses the
instruments. The remainder of the dash is black sculpted vinyl and
plastic. A/C, power windows, power locks, and a stereo are seen on
the dash as well. Above the steering column is a tachometer.
Drivetrain
A 3.5 Liter V6 powers this light and nimble car, and is fuel
injected. This is attached to a 4 speed (4LE) automatic with the
above noted Tiptronic auto gear shift actuated gearbox. On the back
is a 3.89 rear axle.
Undercarriage
As expected, nothing of notability, just normal wear and tear, but
it is really at a minimum. 4 wheel power disc brakes are seen, and
all else is structurally sound. Independent coil over suspension is
on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
My climb in and test drive revealed that there was a little "kick"
that I encountered when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, but the car
had excellent pickup, and ran smoothly otherwise. It's definitely a
head turner, and not something you see every day, even at Classic
Auto Mall where we see quite a lot.
Presenting in all its retro harken back to the hot rod era, all in
2001 trim and technology, we have a low mileage, nice running, very
clean Prowler, right out of the factory with no noodling or
wrenching required by the new owner. Just get in and put a smile on
your face!
