This 1948 Ford F-1 combines the best of old-school with
well-integrated upgrades - including a leather interior, more V8
power, an upgraded suspension, and an overdrive transmission. The
result is a true icon that you can truly enjoy to the fullest.
The Ford F-1 is arguably the best-looking post-war truck. While
they all have a basic industrial attractiveness, this example is
definitely a cut-above because of solid investments. The freight
train-like intimidation of the bold, tall grille is emphasized
further by the extra-bright shine from the mirror-like grille,
bumper, and trim. The extra gloss of the red paint loves to let the
sunshine show off the curves of the fenders. It still has a very
vintage attitude, right down to the whitewall and two-piece wheel
trim. But as you move around back, you start to also get a feeling
for the modern upgrades. There's a rear bumper delete with a custom
panel fill in the section below the tailgate. And the truck bed is
done in full liner paint with a unique color-matched storage box at
the front.
Open the door to see an interior with all the right upgrades. The
bold exterior red returns, but now it's joined by the black in the
right places. We especially love it on the upgraded spit bench
where it's done in supple leather and the fold-down armrest gives
you bucket-like comfort. And the contrast red stitching is a
thoughtful coordinating touch. Plush carpeting, an AM/FM CD stereo,
a banjo-style steering wheel, the tilt column, and upgraded gauges
are all part of this package that makes the classic great for
driving.
The engine bay continues this truck's thoughtful style. The smooth
red inner walls, red radiator shroud, and read block are all part
of a well-planned style. And we especially like how the black Ford
Racing valve covers and air grabber also have matching red
lettering. Plus, there's also something pretty cool about a Ford
truck updated with proper Ford power. This 302 cubic-inch V8
inhales deeper with a Demon four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales
with a sweet tune out of the dual exhaust. There's even a bright
aluminum radiator that helps keep the full package running cool.
The V8's a strong runner, and so this one was made to hit the road.
That's why you have an upgraded Mustang II-style tubular A-arm
independent front suspension, power steering, and front disc
brakes. There's even an upgrade to a four-speed automatic
transmission w/overdrive to make this a solid cruiser.
