This 1984 Mercedes 500SL Euro is equipped with a full AMG body kit. Car has drilled rotors, SS Braided brake lines and AMG spring & shocks. Steel top w/rack & cover. This gray market European 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL was imported and first sold in Texas. It has more displacement and power than the 380SL. This R107 roadster is fitted with European-market headlamps, with washers & wipers. This car was modified before export with a body kit produced by AMG, which in 1984 was fully independent of Mercedes-Benz. It comes with a blue convertible top and matching hardtop. Mileage shown is 107000 with actual mileage unknown.
POWERTRAIN. Engine has correct TRI-Y exhaust manifolds with SS downpipes made by Timevalve connecting to correct center muffler. Rear muffler is Sebring High Flow. The M117 all-aluminum SOHC, fuel-injected 5.0 liter V-8 -- not offered in the roadster in the U.S. - was rated at 241 horsepower. The engine in this 500 SL is original to the car. Starts from cold with no issues. Recent service includes an oil change, along with replacement of the battery and spark plugs. The 4-G Tronic four-speed automatic transmission changes gears as it should. Cruise control needs attention. The engine bay is stock and acceptably clean. Battery moved to trunk. MSD high output ignition system installed. EXTERIOR. This car received an AMG body kit when it was new in Germany. Kit included body-color side skirts and a rear spoiler, plus AMG Monoblock 17" alloy wheels. Quality of paint is excellent. Car is rust-free. Convertible top as well as the hardtop have no fit or leakage issues. Glass is in excellent condition, and all exterior lighting is functional. Levers for locking top to windshield header are included. Underside of car is clean and free of corrosion. INTERIOR. Passenger cabin is in excellent condition throughout. Dark blue leather seats, which are heated and offer wind deflectors, are original to the car. The carpeting is in very good condition. The top of the dash is free of cracks and sun damage. All small controls and trim are in excellent shape. The burl wood inserts on the center console are in good condition. All the VDO instruments work properly as do the central locking system and power window lifts. The car now has an aftermarket Kenwood audio system with CD changer and trunk-mounted amplifier. The carpeted trunk is in good condition. A/C needs repair; heater works fine. CHASSIS. The AMG Monoblock wheels are now mounted with Sumitomo HTR A/S PO3 tires sized 245/45/17 dated 29th week 2021. Screw pin for installing wheels is included. Power steering is free of leaks and tracks properly. Suspension was serviced in 2018 with front bushings and the front-end aligned. Car has four-wheel antilock disc brakes. All rotors are slotted and drilled; front rotors are new with stainless steel braided brake lines. All calipers have been rebuilt and have new brake pads. DOT-4 brake fluid used. New battery August 2020. Battery maintainer included. Fall of 2021 transmission oil changed, filter and differential oil. Gear shift lever bushings replaced. Also replaced left and right tie-rod assemblies, including four-wheel alignment. Suspension has AMG lowering springs and AMG shocks. The fuel injectors have been replaced. The suspension & undercarriage are in good condition. The cam lobes & double row timing chain are in good condition. A first aid kit has been added and is shown the photos. The trunk has been finished with a battery cover similar to a 560SL. DOCUMENTATION EXTRAS. Included are the owner's manual, warranty book and instruction guide for Kenwood sound system. Multiple Mercedes Benz repair manuals & AMG books with the car. All maintenance records, both from current and previous owners, are included. Car Fax available. The matching factory hardtop, with rack holder and cover are also included. A Mercedes Benz brand full car cover in like-new condition is also included. Car jack, spare tire and tool roll also included as well as first aid kit and bracket.
