For Sale: 1985 Jeep CJ7 in Belton, Texas

Vehicle Description

15-years owned 1985 CJ-7 Renegade. This CJ-7 was acquired by the owner in August 2006. The jeep has 172,524 miles on the speedometer. The previous owner provided a receipt for a replaced radiator in December 2005 when the jeep showed 160,000 miles, a receipt in January 2006 for a replaced valve cover, a receipt in May 2006 for a replaced exhaust system, and a receipt in July 2006 for a replaced output shaft, front counter shaft, clutch shaft, and transmission seal kit. Previous owner stated the clutch was replaced, the 5-speed transmission rebuilt, an oversize (20 gallon) fuel tank installed, solid rear axle installed, brake rotors and shoes replaced, replacement halogen headlamps installed together with CB fog lamps, four heavy duty shocks installed, an after market stereo radio installed, an 110V electric engine block heater installed, and the non-tilt steering wheel replaced with a Grant GT steering wheel.

Cosmetically, current owner had this originally white vehicle media-plastic blasted to bare metal and painted in GM Pure White. New complete Renegade decal graphics were added. All body work and paint professionally done. The vehicle has only been wet twice since the repaint some 8 years ago and that is when it was washed. Waxed once. Always garaged. The front bucket seats were replaced with new Bestop spice color seats and the rear tumble seat recovered in matching spice colored fabric. Other new items include: black dash pad, black dash panel overlay with radio cutout, black door panels, windshield glass, windshield frame and frame weatherstrip, hardtop to windshield frame weatherstrip, hardtop to body weatherstrip, cowl weatherstrip, front frame cover, driver and passenger door glass with weatherstrips, door to frame weatherstrips, gear shift rubber boot, tailgate cables, tailgate weatherstrip, lift gate weatherstrip, and tire carrier bump stops. The jeep has been rhino lined. Seat belts were replaced and the exterior of the hard top coated with Line X for sound deadening and then painted to match spice interior. A chrome grill cover was added as were chrome door hinges, chrome windshield hinges, chrome side mirrors, and chrome tailgate hinges. The black spare tire cover is custom with “CJ-7” stitched in spice color to match the hardtop and interior color. Both amber parking lamp lenses, both amber side marker lenses, and both tail light lenses were replaced. Owner added a removable front tow bar and tow light kit as well as a trailer hitch, but never towed with the vehicle.

Mechanically, the jeep is powered by a 4.2 liter inline-six cylinder paired with a five-speed manual transmission and a rebuilt dual range transfer case. Current owner had the water pump and thermostat replaced, a re-manufactured master cylinder installed, and the differential gasket seal replaced. Motor and transmission mounts, driveshaft U-joints, spark plug wires, and ignition lock cylinder were also replaced. This jeep has not been lift modified and rides smoothly at highway speed. Great parade vehicle.

As noted above, the jeep has 172,524 miles on the speedometer. A new intake and exhaust manifold gasket set were installed on February 6, 2017 when the jeep had 171,849 miles showing (just over 600 miles ago). Four new 235.75.17 tires were installed on May 2, 2017 when the jeep had 171,952 miles showing (just over 500 miles ago). A Weber carburetor was dealer installed on June 21, 2017 when the jeep had 172,023 miles showing (501 miles ago). An electric fuel pump and starter were installed on February 20, 2019. A new battery was installed on March 5, 2020 when the jeep had 172,429 miles showing (95 miles ago). Champion copper spark plugs and distributor cap/rotor were replaced at 172,429 miles showing (32 miles ago). The oil and filter were changed about 15 miles ago. The more extensive mechanical work performed by shop mechanics.

Included in the sale: new spice color bikini top, two CJ jeep shop manuals (Chilton and Haynes), a new in-the-box Quadratec CJ-7 car cover, tow bar and tow light kit, and a never used 21X48 trailer hitch aluminum cargo carrier.
