The 1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 is a true vintage premium machine. And
this one keeps up its appeal in modern times with solid investments
in the shining paint, A/C interior, and upgraded V8 power.
Some cars are triple-black, but when you're a 1970s classic, it's
hard to deny the appeal of triple-green. That's especially true
when there's a more modern upgrade with the green paint. It has
that dark green earth-tone you want from this era, but now with a
terrific metallic glow that can't help but attract attention. The
paint is not the only reason why this is an appealing classic. The
doors shut solid; the body is straight, and the gaps are even. Of
course, there's the bright work. These Cougars have a more
luxurious appearance that includes the angular hood leading to the
waterfall grille, and the big shining chrome bumper dips down to
accommodate it. We love the way the rear bumper nicely integrates
the taillights. There are premium style details, like the flying
buttress c-pillar and premium green vinyl half-roof. Plus, there's
a touch of muscle car attitude with the mag wheels, hardtop
profile, and large dual exhaust tips.
The green interior joins the paint and roof to complete the
distinct triple-green style. Despite the classic appearance, you
can also see there has been a solid investment to keep this feeling
fresh. The carpet, headliner, and dash all have a like-new
appearance. And we love the high-back bucket seats that still have
the Cougar logo embossed in them. There are great vintage details,
including the wood-like trim, center console, and full round gauge
package with large speedo and tach. There have also been modern
upgrades that are well-integrated. This includes LED lighting, a
retro-style AM/FM digital tuner, and air conditioning now running
modern R134a refrigerant. Plus, the B&M Quicksilver shifter
signals that there's something nice under the hood.
Under the hood is Ford's famous 351 cubic-inch V8. It's a ATK
Performance motor backed by a C6 automatic, and this upgrade looks
terrific with the finned valve covers, bright air grabber, and
overall tidy style. The V8 inhales deeply with an Edelbrock
four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with added power as headers
feed the dual exhaust. The whole package fires up easily, idles
smoothly, runs strong, and drives great. So it really feels like a
solid drive out on the road. You can enjoy it all with ease thanks
to nice driving features like the C6 three-speed automatic
transmission, power steering, power brakes, front discs, and wide
BF Goodrich tires.
This Cougar has been given the right investment to be the sharp,
powerful, and premium car that you really always want it to be. So
don't miss this all-around awesome hardtop. Call now!
