The Alfa Romeo Spider sports cars enjoyed a long run, providing car enthusiasts the joys of top down motoring, Italian style from 1966 to 1994. Along the way, changes were subtle, distinguished by four series that held true to the original in terms of styling, drivetrain and chassis configurations.
This 1985 series 3 Spider has been well cared for by the original family owners. Since purchasing this car earlier this year we rebuilt the transmission to cure the common 2nd gear grind. Its a very nice driver quality Alfa that presents well in all respects and is good to show and go. There are some minor paint flaws and the top has one dime size nick in it. This car is equipped with factory air, all the components are in place but it does not blow cold and we have not attempted to charge or diagnose it.
Unlike MG's and Triumphs, Alfa convertible tops are super easy to lower and raise with one hand. The interior on this car is nice and tidy with no rips or tears in the seats or carpeting. Alfas came with 5-speed transmissions that make traveling at modern highway speeds drama free. Series 3 cars also got the more reliable Bosch electronic fuel injection that greatly improves drivability.
Alfa Spiders have always represented an excellent value among classic sports cars with performance that exceeds the competition from Britain and Japan. As with all classic cars, the prices are rising and the Alfa is no exception, but they can still be acquired for reasonable prices. At least for the time being. Buy this car, take care of it and enjoy it. If you ever have to sell it you will likely never lose money on it.
