Vehicle Description
Here's a triple-black 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe restored
with a dual-quad 426 Hemi upgrade and an A/C interior. We'll go
ahead and tell you all the details below, but you already know you
want this example of serious Mopar muscle.
The trim tag tells us this is a factory triple black car (paint,
roof, and interior.) That instantly makes it rare Mopar royalty.
This has been under long-term care for 30 years. The restoration
was completed in 2017, and we're told there have been less than 1k
miles put on it since. So you have some serious attraction with a
piano-like finish of the black. Of course, paint is only as good as
the sheet metal underneath, and it takes an excellent body like
this one because imperfections don't hide. Good gaps are also
essential, and you're looking at a total package that the factory
might have been able to achieve only on their best day. It's more
than just the presentation that makes this one special. The argent
silver rear panel is a sure sign of a Gran Coupe. This was a new
feature for Barracudas that brought added upscale style to the
budget brand. It was a risky move to have this separate model line.
So the better-known 'Cuda has more than double the sales. That's
why this was only a two-year option. Besides being a premium car,
this is downright aggressive with the bold hood shaker, hood pins,
and Mopar road wheels with redline tires. And if you've been
looking closely at the pics, the matt black hockey stick stripe
with HEMI callout is pure street machine cool.
The black interior is the final element of triple-black, and this
one keeps correct to the Gran Coupe packaging with special bucket
seats and desirable center console. Overall, the restoration really
did a terrific job of keeping this one like a fresh time capsule.
So you'll love desirable details, like the working AM radio with
8-track, smooth wood-like trim, and the overhead console with
working dome light. So this is the kind of rare classic with a
level of detail and completeness that will likely get you invited
to some big car shows. In fact, the most obvious upgrade is not one
you'll see but instead feel...the factory air conditioning now runs
on modern R134a refrigerant. We love the look of how the door
panels have a red streak to match the redline tires, and that's an
instant reminder of the car's performance nature. So is the Tuff
sports steering wheel and Rallye instrument cluster with the tach
prominently front-and-center.
When you see the engine bay, you'll know those rear fender callouts
were not lying. Beneath the almighty shaker is the big 426
cubic-inch Hemi V8. While this is an upgrade the motor has been
installed with a careful eye to make it look like it has been here
since day one. The shaker hood serves a good purpose because this
one needs to inhale a lot of fresh air to feed the dual set of
Edelbrock four-barrel carburetors. This monster motor exhales with
added power and authority as long tube headers feed an H-pipe dual
exhaust. You'll want to check out those pipes in the undercarriage
photos because it also shows you how fresh this build is over every
inch. Making sure you can harness this power correctly are great
features like the stout A727 Torqueflite three-speed automatic
transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual and service
manuals. When you dream about Mopars, this is the one. Rarely do
you get to find your fantasy Barracuda in real life, so don't let
this one slip through your fingers. Call now!
