Vehicle Description
1987 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
Mention the name Corvette and immediately someone in the
conversation will perk up and pay attention. It's a timeless
American sports car and has gone through several personality
changes. From the 2-seat coupe when first introduced, to a fast
50's classic, to the Stingray versions of the 1960's and early
1970's. And now all sleek and trimmed with lots of power, no more
chrome, retaining the hidden headlights and a much lower profile
for the 80's.
For consignment, we now present, from way back in 1987, a morsel of
Corvette history in the flesh, a Chevrolet Corvette! Drum roll
please....
Exterior
All clean copper metallic painted fiberglass is seen on this
exterior in good condition. Some dulling in the paint is noted on
the rear neoprene taillight insert panel, and a few scratches
throughout. Hidden headlights for this year and some shark gills on
the front quarters, otherwise just acres of fiberglass that is
sculpted into this car. A black trim runs around the entire center
of this car even through the center of the bumpers. Looking like
the wind shaped it, the front windshield is raked rearward for some
slip when motoring down the highway, and a smoked glass top covers
the passengers. This seamlessly melts into the rear sloped and
curved greenhouse glass rear "hatch" if you will, which turns out
is a nice place for storage. 17-inch polished American Racing
Torque Thrust wheels are on all 4 corners and all are wrapped by
275/40R17's
Interior
Charcoal leather buckets grace the inside of this Vette. A digital
driver information system is seen on the square design dash, as
well as the 4-speed automatic transmission shifter in the console.
Power windows, power steering and a key fob remote access button
will get you into the rear storage area that has enough room to
haul "stuff". Carpeting appears in good condition but has faded
from its original gray to a lighter brown in a few areas
throughout. Door panels are molded vinyl and contain a central
black actuator panel with locks and a courtesy light. The steering
wheel is showing off as original to the car and is wrapped in a
leather covering. The original radio is still there as are the
climate control panels and large display which has all the warning
lights to foretell you of impending trouble. Leather buckets with
large armrest style bolsters which house the power buttons to get
the seat just right Goldilocks.
Drivetrain
A 5.7 Liter electronic fuel injected V8 can be viewed within an
original engine bay with the flip of the entire hinged front end.
Bolted on the back is the 4-speed automatic 700R4 transmission.
Keeping everything cool is an all electric fan cooling system.
Feeding the engine is EFI, and on the back is a 2.59 axle. All
clean under the front of this car in the engine bay.
Undercarriage
Reasonably clean and rust free all good underneath with an overall
light undercoating which has patinated nicely. X-bracing shows and
ties the car together for extra stiffening. Suspension includes an
aluminum forged A arms and mono leaf spring and is seen on the
front and rear. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners. Also, a
Borla exhaust is on and looking like new.
Drive-Ability
This car started right up and on the test track performed much like
a 1987 Corvette! I noticed a dimming of the dash cluster which
could possibly be on its way out, but was working the display
during the test drive.
Overall a fairly clean Corvette, nice copper metallic paint,
American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, and automatic transmission.
In keeping with the America's Sports car theme, this one has plenty
of life left to carry that torch.
