We are proud to offer this beautifully restored 1958 Mercedes
190SL. Finished in its original color of Strawberry Red metallic,
it has beautiful beige interior and correct black convertible top.
The 190 SL presented an attractive, more affordable alternative to
the exclusive Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, sharing its basic styling,
engineering, detailing, and fully independent suspension. Both cars
had double wishbones in front and swing axles at the rear. Instead
of the 300 SL's expensive purpose-built W198 tubular spaceframe,
the 190 SL's R121 structure used a shortened unitary floor pan
modified from the W121 base saloon. After acquiring this older
restoration, we had our shop undertake a thorough freshening of
this fine car. Under stewardship of its previous owner, it
underwent a comprehensive restoration and a photo album of that
process accompanies the car, This was a very solid car with good
floors which were repaired during that earlier restoration. While
acceptable, we felt the overall condition of this car warranted a
higher standard. Consequently, our shop has replaced the floors
with OEM quality replacements so that it is now as nice underneath
as it is topside. Among other work we've installed new Mercedes OEM
chrome rocker moldings and a new top in the correct canvas material
along with new chrome top bow and new top boot. The bright work and
chrome is all very good without any pitting. The interior is in
great shape with clean, unmarked seat upholstery.. The engine has
been rebuilt and retains its original Solex carburetors. It has
good oil pressure at all temperatures and maintains a normal
temperature range when underway. The transmission shifts well and
has had new shift linkage bushings recently installed. Overall, the
car runs and drives very well. "It's Alive Automotive" is a full
