1948 Chrysler Windsor Sedan

First introduced in the Chrysler line-up in 1939, the Windsor was produced through to the 1961 model year. The pre-war Windsor model offered more standard features and an upscale interior over the Royal line and was powered by the Chrysler Straight 6 engine. The 1942 Chrysler heralded post-war design, with fenders being better integrated into the overall bodywork of the car. Production of the Windsor was interrupted in January, 1942 as all automobile companies in the USA switched to war production.
Following WWII, the Windsor was put back into production for the 1946 model year, largely retaining much of the styling of the 1942 models. From 1946 to 1948, the Windsor made up nearly 63% of the company's sales. The 1948 Windsor is a stately car that was one of the larger vehicles to roam the highways following WWII! In 1962, Chrysler replaced the Windsor name with the introduction of the non-lettered series Chrysler 300.
The car presented at auction is an all original, unrestored survivor! The car is reported to be a three owner car, with the second owner being Russell Chatham, the renowned contemporary American landscape artist and author who spent most of his career living in Livingston, Montana. Mr. Chatham gifted the car to the third owner, who recently passed. The Windsor is being sold by the gentleman's estate.
The black paint presents as expected being 70+ years old. There does not appear to have been a re-paint on the car, and the paint is in need of a good buffing and polishing. The pictures do present a number of blemishes on the body, adding to the originality of the car. The interior appears to be all original to the car and is in good overall condition. The suicide doors are a wonderful feature to the car!
