Vehicle Description
This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is a well-preserved one-owner
classic. And while over four decades of continuous ownership is
already desirable, this one also adds a full gold style, the
optional 400ci V8, four-on-the-floor, and desirable WS6 suspension
package. So it really is a full dream list that's up for grabs.
There's something very distinctive about the factory-correct Solar
Gold. It created one of the coolest coordinating packages around
when combined with the darker gold hood bird and golden snowflake
alloy wheels. So it was sort of like a custom car straight from the
factory. This one amps up the appeal because it's a one-owner
machine that has averaged under 1k miles annually. It continues to
look fantastic today thanks to good care and the right investments.
For example, the paint was given a high-quality respray in 2012,
and so the superior golden glow gets to show off the well-kept body
panels. And a clean set of Goodyear Eagle GTIIs really makes for a
great detail from this era. More than just history, this has all
the elements we love. The widebody appearance is pure aggression;
the headlights are individually separated; there are large flares
for each fender; and the spoiler covers the rear from end-to-end.
And everyone loves the attitude that comes from the side scoops and
the shaker hood.
Just like the exterior, the interior feels quite vintage and
well-preserved. So you'll be impressed with the overall level of
preservation. It's in the big things like the well-preserved style
of the hobnail cloth seats, and there are little details like the
working courtesy lights. Plus, you'll also love how it's loaded
with features like power windows, a tilt steering column, and
provisions for factory air conditioning (it will need servicing to
blow cold again.) Even the Delco AM/FM stereo will play your
8-track tapes. The driver gets to face iconic components like the
Trans Am's special three-spoke steering wheel, cool machined
aluminum dash, and Rally gauge package. In fact, the only addition
you may notice are two switches on the dash... they make the hood
scoop a real function piece!
Under the hood, the quality preservation continues. The 400
cubic-inch V8 is the numbers-matching unit, and it has an authentic
appearance right down to the Pontiac Blue paint on the block. The
motor fires up with the kind of gusto you want in a well-maintained
classic. Plus, with the four-speed manual, you get to make this T/A
howl with delight as you enjoy the powerful V8. But what really
makes this one special is the WS6 handling package. It includes a
larger sway bar, tighter steering box ratio, and four-wheel disc
brakes. This option made the Trans Am the favorite of most
automotive magazines back in the day, and it still has confident
moves today thanks to newer bushings.
All the right documents come with the sale, including the dealer
invoice, window sticker, bill of sale, warranty card, title docs,
factory buildsheet, owner's manual, and Pontiac Historic Services
(PHS) docs. That makes it a great one-owner classic with the best
material to back it up. So when that's on one of the most desirable
Trans Ams around, you know you have to act fast to grab it. Call
