Exceptional originality meets exceptional preservation on this 1957
Chevrolet Bel Air. It is one of the most desirable classics around,
and this is believed to have all the best factory pieces, right
down to the V8 under the hood. And because this American icon even
has well-documented low miles, the big trunk is there just so you
can take home more awards to add to this hardtop's collection.
We have a log kept for the odometer that reaffirms that this one is
showing its full original mileage. That means it has averaged less
than 440 miles annually. You've probably done more than that in one
day's road trip! This kind of history can only come for a car that
was properly respected. It stayed in the same family for nearly 30
years, and it was only sold out of the family when someone who
would appreciate it was found. This kind of careful ownership
extends into today, and you know that from the moment you lay eyes
on this Bel Air coupe. The black paint was touched up when it first
left family care, but there has been a commitment to originality,
and so it retains about 85 percent of the factory application. So
while the gloss looks good today, the fact that it has endured for
nearly 65 years is what's really impressive. The same care goes for
the straightness of the body panels. It helps deliver a survivor
that also loves to stun with its crisp presentation of the iconic
sweeping side trim. And the rest of the brightwork has a clean and
complete look with just the right touch of age up-close that really
helps tell this car's story of respect. It all looks like a premium
cruiser - from the gold accents in the trim to the white roof that
matches so nicely with the whitewall tires.
The black and gray interior has a well-coordinated appearance that
feels like it almost mirrors the black and chrome on the outside in
both color and premium execution. It is an impressively original
setup, and in fact, only the carpeting and armrests are known to
have been replaced. And as you look at the full package, it
impresses in the details in everything from the working dome light
to the button-top pattern on the seats. Even the original spare
tire is standing up in the trunk! The '57 Bel Air had a
particularly beautiful dash, and this still glows with its bright
trim. But what we particularly like is just the right hint of aging
on the steering wheel. So you can feel a connection to the past
generations when you take control of this coupe.
Part of what makes these cars a legend is that the Tri-Fives were
the ones to introduce the Chevy small block V8. This was born a
VC-code car, and it has the correct suffix code 283 cubic-inch
motor in the engine bay. So it's hard to believe that this is
anything but the original powerhouse. We're told it was painted
around the same time the exterior was refreshed, but the motor has
also never left the car. And it really looks like a time capsule
with the crisp GM hoses, big oil bath air cleaner, classic battery
topper, Delco generator, and Chevrolet script valve covers. You'll
even spot red oxide primer in the undercarriage photos. And while
this has an impressively low odometer, it's also a Bel Air that's
made to cruise. The motor fires up easily, and it drives
comfortably with the Powerglide automatic transmission (also
believed to be original) and newer tires.
The sale comes with supporting documents, including photos,
maintenance records, and a signed history from the 1980s. You also
get past judging sheets and the awards this impressive survivor has
earned. So if you're looking for an icon with true distinction, you
need to add your name to this Bel Air's owner history. Call
