Vehicle Description
We could call this car a sleeper, but quite frankly, everyone
already knows not to mess with a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. But
when it has been enhanced and fortified to give the LS6 V8
twenty-five percent more power, this speedy Vette enters supercar
territory.
We all know the legend of the Z06 by now. Chevy started with their
lightest and strongest Corvette configuration, the FRC (Fixed Roof
Coupe). Then they shed weight wherever they could, even including
utilizing a thinner windshield. The result was a car that was ready
for the racetrack. It even has a full-width carbon fiber rear
spoiler added. But a pure racer might not be your first impression
here. After all, the silver paint looks less like a track day
bruiser and more like what you'd find on a low-mileage machine.
That means a quality finish that helps highlight quality panels. It
also helps that the front and parts of the side were thoughtfully
wrapped in a clear protective film. And those special Z06
double-five spoke alloy wheels look terrific in a slightly darker
shade of silver. So it's a great-looking car you'll love to show
off, even before you mention the monster under the hood.
Inside is exactly what you expect from a special Corvette: a loaded
interior that's comfortable for two. The black leather buckets
match the dark interior, and the special red Z06 stitching reminds
you this coupe is out for blood. This car offers plenty of
luxuries, such as dual-zone climate control, power steering, power
windows, power locks, keyless entry, power mirrors, power seats,
cruise control, and a Bose AM/FM/CD stereo system. Because this is
a modern classic, it also means modern safety features such as dual
airbags and anti-lock brakes. Plus, the FRC body has a trunk that
can truly carry a weekend's worth of luggage, including your racing
suit and helmet. Speaking of race-ready features, this one has a G
Force stabilizer bar to mount the G Force racing harnesses (the
standard seatbelts are also still in place for everyday use.)
Tilt the hood forward and see the original numbers-matching LS6 V8
proudly sitting in the engine bay. It looks quite stock, but
there's a fortified beast within. The special 5.7-liter motor was
rebuilt with Comp Cams hi-lift camshaft, hardened pushrods, ARP
retainers, double valve springs, Melling high-pressure oil pump. It
inhales deeper with a Halltech cold air intake, and it exhales with
added power and authority as Kooks headers feeding a cat-back SS
exhaust. The result is approximately 480 horsepower at the crank
(the dyno shows 415 hp at the rear wheels,) which represents a 25
percent jump over stock! You have complete control over all the
sound and fury the V8 brings thanks to the six-speed manual
transmission backed with a C7 clutch and flywheel. The Z06 received
suspension upgrades from GM on the fully independent suspension,
and this one goes further with Bilstein shocks and Eibach sway
bars. Keeping everything in control is also the large four-wheel
disc brake package and Continental ExtremeContact sports
rubber.
It's amazing you can get such a slick and powerful street machine
for such an obtainable price. So you know you need to act quickly
