Vehicle Description
1968 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe
During the design and initial construction of the Camaro, the car
had the name "Panther." The 1965 concept bore the Panther emblem,
and it retained the name until just a few weeks before the car
debuted. However, Chevy always intended to give its Mustang
competitor a "C" name to conform to its Corvette, Chevelle, and
Corvair models.
A proclaimed California car now has come from the left coast to the
east where it was magically turned into a resto-mod. With a big 6.0
liter LS2 engine, some snappy Dakota Digital gauges and polished 17
inch American Racing wheels, just turn the key and get in to enjoy
it! It's all completed.
Exterior
A very nicely done respray on this car is seen in LeMans Blue. A
duo of wide white stripes make their way from the hidden headlight
grille to the front glass, then continue on the trunk deck and
small spoiler. Correct and clean badging is seen on the front
fenders and quarters and SS on the rear gas on back, a small but
effective rear spoiler is attached in matching blue. A black chin
spoiler is in front just below the grille and shiny front bumper.
Body matching drip moldings, shiny window surrounds, handles,
mirrors, and brite work is all in very good condition with nary a
sign of any pitting or fading. Gaps are well minded, and paint is
overall excellent. 17-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust
wheels are on all 4 corners and in front wrapped in 245/40ZR17's
and on back slightly bigger 275/40ZR17's. Im diggin' that blue.
Interior
The interior door panels present original and are very clean and
straight black vinyl. Front low back buckets and a rear bench
showing off with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters sit
above black carpet, and all is clean in here. The original dash
shows nicely and retains its rake as it moves downward from the
dash top. Dakota digital red glowing instruments are now settled
into the deep round insert gauges. Chromed eyeball vents are now in
to direct that cool Vintage air towards you. A rally steering wheel
turns easily as it is power assisted. In dash center wood applique
framed by chromed trimming has a horizontal A/C vent, temp sliders
and a vintage AM/FM radio. This intersects with the center console
that races through the buckets, sports more wood applique the
shifter and 4 digital red backlit gauges that present themselves to
the driver nicely. A short stalk black ball topped shifter is just
behind these gauges and well within reach of the pilot. The top is
nice and tight. Mmmmm mmmm good!
Drivetrain
Crammed in under the hood is an engineering marvel in the form of a
6.0 liter LS2 engine. It is fed by Fi Tech EFI. Headers are on for
the exhale and on back a T56 6-speed manual transmission. On back
for the axle, which is courtesy a 73-74 Nova and is in 10-bolt 2.73
posi trac form. All very nicely worked to near perfection.
Yowza!
Undercarriage
Like new exhaust from MagnaFlow with 3-inch tubing takes the exhale
handoff from the headers and works them out the back of the car.
All panels and steel is structurally sound with little to no
surface rust throughout. Stock suspension, a new fuel cell, and
power disc brakes for the front, and power drums for the rear can
be seen. Noice...
Drive-Ability
This resto-mod fired right up and off to the test track where it
exhibited neck snapping acceleration, bias free panic stopping, and
very nice handling. All inside glowed a beautiful red, and all
outside gleamed a beautiful blue.
A really nice example of the 68 Camaro coupe, runs great, starts
quickly, and can smoke the tires or sit there and win trophies. It
doesn't get any better than this "Go-tie" resto-mod Chevrolet pony
car with a high horse engine.
