For Sale: 1968 Pontiac GTO in Lithia Springs, Georgia

Vehicle Description

This 1968 Pontiac GTO is for true enthusiasts only. It's a two-owner vehicle where the ultra-low odometer is believed to represent the full actual mileage. And in fact, it's one of the most stunning survivors with one of the most comprehensive paperwork you'll find. So while a loaded GTO hardtop with its numbers-matching 400 V8 and four-on-the-floor is usually a car's headline, on this one, it's just a nice bonus.

The history of this one really makes you take note. We're told this was a mechanic's car. In fact, the first owner was a chief mechanic for Delta Air Lines. So he was the kind of person that knew how to take care of prim machines. He special ordered this GTO in Hollywood, California and they built it right down the road in Freemont. This was a loaded car, and you see that everywhere from the hidden headlights to the vinyl roof. We even have the window sticker to show the long options list. What that also means was it was a well-respected coupe, too. He never intended it to be a daily driver, and so it only left the garage and pleasure drives. So when it went to its second owner in 2016, this GTO was truly an amazing survivor. The Flambeau Burgundy paint appears largely original. It strikes the ideal mix of deep shine from a distance, and the right aged-in style so people know you have a respected survivor. Meticulous care means not even a piece of trim or badge seems out of place. The original tires even come with the sale. It's an amazing level of preservation and history. We don't just get this story from the consignor, but a prestigious publisher has also the full history in a feature story. It tells about a garage-kept life sprinkled with possible interactions with everyone from John DeLorean to a Ferrari.

Parchment interiors are a rarity from this era. So it not only adds to this car's intrigue, but the bright look also lets you showcase the complete and clean style of this original setup. A loaded GTO means rear interior features. Some are a novelty, like the working 8-track radio. Other pieces are still quite useful with the power windows letting you show off the pillarless hardtop profile without ever leaving the driver's seat. And while the odometer is tantalizingly low, this has the kind of driver-oriented setup you'll find irresistible. Bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, and round gauges are part of a proper GTO package. Plus, the Hurst shifter and iconic hood tach are exactly what you want on a classic muscle car.

The numbers-matching 400 cubic-inch V8 has a terrific vintage style. It wears the correct Pontiac turquoise paint with pride while still looking ready to drive. This is the optional HO motor, and so it's great to take proper control with the correct Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission. This may be a preserved classic, but the tight feeling it has on the road reminds you that it was a long-term loved be a master mechanic. And power steering, power brakes, and front discs make it easy to show this time capsule off everywhere.

The sale comes complete with a ton of terrific paperwork, including the original window sticker, the dealer order sheet, Protect-o-Plate warranty card, owner's manual packet, first temp plate, previous registrations, and much more. The '68 GTO is a desirable muscle car on its own, and this is a meticulously cared-for survivor. So when it's time to be the king even amongst royalty, you need to call today!
