For Sale: 1962 Mercedes-Benz 220 in Portland, Oregon

Vehicle Description

1962 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Coupe; Survivor, Johnny Cash connection

Only 2-Owners!

Rust Free, Survivor Class W111 Coupe, all original, never restored.

Car has been registered and driven since new, never sat unused or in storage. Odometer shows 108,000 confirmed miles. This is a driver, fly in and drive her home!

First owner was a Northern California fine art photographer, current owner was manager for Johnny Cash’s only band throughout his career, The Tennessee Three. (Note the “Cash” decals). Excellent oil pressure, stack of 25 receipts shows nearly $20,000 spent over 6-years for parts and service from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center and local independent Mercedes shops. Engine head rebuilt at 100k miles along with other work totaling $9,615 for that service alone!

Lots of mechanical work has been completed to bring this car to a state where it’s very reliable and drivable, yet the cosmetics were left untouched to maintain originality. Always the center of attention at shows owing to its elegant lines and tasteful patina. It’s the perfect car for daily driving, timed rally use, or touring where you don’t want to worry about adding a scratch but where reliability remains paramount. Excellent base for rally-type vehicle such as Peking to Paris. Great around town, but comes into her own around 80-90mph on the open road. Perfect long-distance cruiser.

Areas that exhibit the car’s age include a chip in the far passenger side of windshield (out of sight lines), seat leather needs replaced, small dings throughout the body and bumpers, the fuel gauge flops around below about 1/4 tank, and the paint has been touched up in various sections over the years. The car is solid and there are NO patch panels; all original body. See underside photos! All chassis, body, engine, and frame numbers/tags are present.

Original California **Black Plates** included. Tool roll is present and stocked. The jack and spare tire are present, owner’s manual, dealer photo brochure, copy of the data card, the Classic Center W111 repair CD, car show “Best In Class” award from a few years back, etc.
