car for the early 1990s, the W140, brought all of the W126?s usual
refinements into the new decade while adding even more. This super
low-mileage 300SE is only one owner since new and still looks
almost showroom new! Made in Mercedes? Stuttgart, Germany factory
in February 1993, it was shipped across the Atlantic Ocean to
Baltimore, Maryland then on to a Chicago, Illinois vehicle prep
center. It was dealer traded from Laurel Motors, Inc. in Westmont,
Illinois to Boulevard Motors in St. Louis, Missouri. It left the
factory with the following options ? sunroof, acceleration slip
regulation (ASR) and heated front seats. The car was originally
purchased on September 22, 1993, and is one of 3,393 examples
exported to the US in 1993. Finished in Black (code DB040), the
car?s paint and trim are in overall excellent original order. The
body is straight and bank vault solid, and the body-colored bumpers
fit tightly to the body. This 300SE rolls on Cooper CS4 Touring
radials, size 225/60R16 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a
forged, factory alloy wheel. The tires and wheels are all in very
good order. The car has fully independent suspension, front and
rear. The gas tank holds 18.5 gallons. Under the hood is a 3.2L
DOHC, 24-valve straight six-cylinder engine (code M104.992) with
sequential multi-port fuel injection. This motor is linked to a
five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive (5G-TRONIC).
Driver convenience features are lengthy, as expected - automatic
climate control, cruise control, variable speed, power assisted
steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, power locks,
power sideview mirrors, 12-way power front bucket seats with
three-position memory and lumbar support, tilt steering column and
power antenna. Inside, the mostly black interior with gray trim is
elegant, understated and matches well with the exterior. The black
leather front buckets and rear bench are in excellent order, as is
the matching carpet. The gray headliner offers some contrast. The
requisite four-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel is present,
while it, the instrument panel, inner door panels are all in
excellent shape. The center console and console-mounted,
leather-topped shift lever look fantastic. A M-B and Bose factory
AM/FM stereo with cassette deck completes the interior. Other
comfort and convenience features included:? ?Double-paned
soundproofed glass was a new S-Class innovation first fitted on the
W140. This form of window glazing allowed for improved
soundproofing, reduced condensation, and other insulation benefits
?Electrically-operated exterior mirrors could be folded by switch
to ease driving in narrow spaces ?'Parameter steering' was a system
which made low-speed driving easier by reducing the effort required
to maneuver in speed-sensitive situations such as parking
?Rear-parking markers, or guide rods. These rods extended from the
rear corners of the trunk lid when in reverse, providing the driver
with a guideline for rear maneuvers ?Windshield wipers with heated
washer system ?Electrically-operated automatic-dimming inside
rear-view mirror that tied into the seat and steering wheel memory
?Heated exterior mirrors ?Orthopedic seats were an expensive option
from the factory but consisted of several different air cushions in
the seat that the user can inflate and deflate to find the perfect
driving position ?Dual-zone climate control Safety equipment
included dual front airbags, knee bolsters, anti-lock brakes (ABS),
acceleration slip regulation (ASR), seatbelt pre-tensioners,
anti-theft alarm with radio theft deterrent and front and rear head
restraints. Competition to this Benz in 1993 included Acura?s
Legend, BMW?s 730, Buick?s Park Avenue Ultra, Cadillac?s Sedan
DeVille, Infiniti?s Q45, Jaguar?s XJ6, Lexus? LS400 and Lincoln?s
Town Car. If you?re looking for a classic, top-of-the-range sedan
