This 1972 Jaguar XKE is a Series III 2+2 coupe finished in Pale Primrose over Black leather, and it is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes four Stromberg carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, power-assisted steering, chrome-finished knock-off wire wheels, air conditioning, and an AM/FM radio. The car was acquired by the current owner from the selling owner in 2021. This XKE is now offered with an owner’s manual and a free and clear Georgia title.
The 2+2 model featured a 105″ wheelbase, and the Series III was equipped with a larger front grille than earlier models as well as re-positioned and larger front indicators and taillights below the bumpers. This example is finished in red that the selling dealer believes was partially repainted during prior ownership, and during current ownership paintwork was performed on the hood.
The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 272 horsepower, which is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. Maintenance recently completed in 2022 is said to have included a general inspection, an oil change, rebuilding of all 4 carburetors, full engine tune, Ignition wire and distributor cap replacement, and air filter.
Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels are secured with short-eared knock-offs and wear Dunlop SP40’s along with a matching spare fitted with a Dunlop radial is stored in the rear compartment. Braking is managed by four-wheel discs, and the car is equipped with a power steering
Cabin finishes include black leather upholstery accompanied by matching door panels and interior trim. The front seats have been recently recovered with original Jaguar leather surfaces. The car is equipped with air conditioning, and a vintage AM/FM radio is retained in the center stack. Wear is visible on some of the control surfaces.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of factory Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and an analog clock and other auxiliary gauges in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 37k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added by the current owner. The Georgia title carries an Exempt Mileage brand, yet the mileage is believed to be accurate.
