For Sale: 1966 Volvo 122 in San Antonio, Texas

Vehicle Description

1966 122S “Amazon” 2-door Automatic (Rare) in absolutely pristine condition!  Looks, feels & even smells like new!  Complete body restoration by Volvo enthusiasts with an eye toward perfection. Rarely exposed to the elements and only driven about 425 miles since restoration in 2017. A real beauty that turns heads and great for a Sunday stroll!

  • Manufactured in Goteborg, Sweden as #1,063 of 72,550 built in 1966

This 1966 Volvo 122S is powered by a twin-carb, inline 4-cylinder engine paired with a Borg Warner Type 35 automatic transmission. It is said that the original owner stored the Volvo in a barn for 8 years before it was discovered in 2013.  The barn find Volvo was then restored by David Colvin (Bluestone Auto, PA) from 2016 to 2018 and completed to the condition you see today. Factory equipment plus aftermarket 3-point front seat belts, lap belts in the rear seat, and an air conditioning system. This Volvo has just over 102K original miles and features a clear title in the seller's name.

In 1966, this 122s left Sweden's Goteborg factory wearing a light blue paint job. During the restoration, it was repainted an original 1961 Volvo paint scheme of two-tone Old English white over Navistar International red. Chrome is used on the side trim, around all the glass, bezels around the headlights and taillights and on the trunk lid. The car received a complete frame off restoration from 2016 to 2018, which included paint removal to bare metal, replacing the rear quarter panel on the passenger side, minor dent removal, some metalwork, some rust repair, a new windshield, a new rear window seal, new door seals, and stainless steel bumpers.

Factory wheels are wrapped in blackwall tires. The wheels have been powder-coated grey, and the front disc and rear drum brakes were rebuilt in 2017.

While the interior was originally equipped with early version three-point seat belts in the front, the two-point rear seat belts were added later. In addition, the original black interior atop black rubber flooring has been replaced by brown carpeting and a new brown leatherette interior. Many additional new parts complete the interior beyond those details such as a dashboard cover, and headliner.

Instrumentation includes a speedometer, odometer, trip-meter, temp gauge and fuel gauge along with a compliment of indicator lights displaying warnings for oil pressure and amperage. The radio is original but currently inoperable. The odometer shows 102,325 miles, of which ~425 miles were added by the seller since its restoration.

The 1780cc inline 4-cylinder engine features 5 main bearings and a dual SU carburetor setup which is paired to Borg Warner's Type 35 automatic transmission. Directing the power to the rear axles is a Hypoid Differential. A new gas tank was installed in 2015, the transmission received some service work in 2021, and the battery and battery mount were both replaced in 2015.
