For Sale: 1958 Edsel Pacer in Orange, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

In 1957 Ford debuted the Edsel, a car named after Henry Fords son, that was meant to compete directly with General Motors’ Buick and Oldsmobile. Ford wanted to introduce a car that was innovative and had upscale features that could be more affordable to the midrange buyer and at the same time differentiate it from its Ford and Mercury models. To do this, Ford had the Edsel designed by Roy Brown who really defied the norm in terms of automotive design at that time in Detroit. The Edsel’s design and style can best be described as “mid century’ if you had to find a term. Instead of the normal big fins of the era, Edsel had boomerang taillights, and a vertical “horse collar” grille that definitely defied logic. They did, however, introduce new technology with the Edsel which included the push-button “Teletouch” transmission, rolling dome speedometer, and warning lights for things like oil level, parking brake engagement, and engine temperature. The different looking horse collar grille was not well received by the public when the Edsel was first introduced resulting in low numbers of sales and the company only lasting until 1960. Today the Edsels wild design and unique grille is viewed in a different light by collectors and is seen as really neat and a sleek modern design. Since few were produced to begin with, especially in convertible form, Edsels are very seldom seen and a delight when seen.

Offered here is a rare 1958 Edsel Pacer Convertible that has been completely restored. A California car for most of its life, this Edsel is super straight and finished in its original colors of Ember Red paired with matching interior and Silver Grey Iridescent accents. It features a healthy 361 cubic inch Ford FE V8 paired with its push button automatic transmission. that really moves this car along very nicely. Overall this is a beautifully and correctly restored example that is ready for top down driving or show. Contact us for more information.
