GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1978 Chevrolet Corvette
T-top Stingray Coupe L-82 Pace Car Edition for sale. Powered by a
350ci V8 engine power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed
manual transmission.
For the 1978 Indianapolis 500, Chevrolet was given the opportunity
to sponsor the official pace car for the 5th time in the
manufacturer's history. Chevrolet made four official pace cars to
use in the race and to cover all press duties of the event.
Following the Indy 500, Chevrolet made another 6,502 Corvettes as
replica pace cars, supposedly one for each existing dealership at
the time.
The Pace Car edition had many special features that set it apart.
The first of which is the special paint job that the pace cars
received. This example retains the original silver/black two tone
paint. It also still has the original red pinstriping decal along
with the special Indianapolis 500 decals.
One might think that this special car wouldn't have the performance
or driveability to back up its name as the Indianapolis 500 pace
car, but Chevrolet didn't get the opportunity by making a sloppy
car. The C3 Corvette offered here has power steering, a
limited-slip differential, and four-wheel disc brakes making it
enjoyable to drive. This model has also been equipped with
removable glass roof panels which allow for a wonderful open-top
driving experience
Another special item given to this edition was the silver leather
interior which remains in great condition. Not only is this a
special edition limited car, but it also was equipped with options
such as air conditioning, power windows, power locks, rear window
defroster, and factory AM/FM/CB radio.
This car is made by its engine and transmission pairing. There were
not many examples produced that had the L-82 engine with the
4-speed manual and optioned as an official pace car replica. Now is
