Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this 1996 Chevrolet Impala for
your consideration. Powering this large American machine is a stout
5.7L V8 motor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a smooth
shifting automatic transmission. The LT1 engine made an impressive
260hp and an even more impressive 330 lb-ft of torque. It could hit
60mph in 7 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 15 seconds.
The Impala SS was a bonafide American muscle car. Its subtle sedan
appearance didn't attract as much attention as the performance
warranted. Separating the Impala SS from the standard Chevy
Caprices were a lower and heavier duty suspension from the police
spec Caprice, limited slip differential, larger brakes, and dual
exhausts. Many Impala SSs were painted in black, as the example
offered here is, but there were additional colors offered as well.
All chrome trim with the exception of window trim was removed and
5-spoke aluminum wheels were standard. These seemingly minor design
changes further separated the Impala SS from the Caprice line.
While it is easy to focus on the large motor and performance
focused features, Chevrolet made comfort a priority on the Impala
SS. It has plenty of spaciousness and comfort for both running
errands and cross country road trips alike. With the gray leather
interior, air conditioning, power steering, AM/FM radio, power
windows, power seats, and power locks there were plenty of standard
comfort features. Not only was the interior filled with at the time
high end features, there was also seemingly endless interior space.
The trunk is absolutely massive and the back seat has enough room
to easily accommodate six foot passengers. Even though the Impala
SS had the police spec suspension it still wallows around corners.
An upside to this is the smooth ride quality. This is a fantastic
car, the motor allows this large sedan to cruise down the highway
effortlessly while leaving plenty of power on tap to pass other
drivers.
The unusual combination of a large performance oriented V8 thrown
into a large family sedan is still rare today thus making this
Impala SS part of a rare breed. This example is in great condition
both mechanically and cosmetically. It has been stored in the
winters, features a K&N cold air intake, and a Hypertech tuner.
