For Sale: 1966 Chevrolet Nova II in Spencerport, New York

Vehicle Description

This 1966 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova received an overhauled, performance-built drivetrain that revolves around a 383ci stroker V8 with a Holley carburetor, an MSD ignition system, and performance headers. Power is sent to the rear through a Hurst shifter connected to a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission and a Posi traction rear end. The seller has owned the vehicle for six years and has actively shown the car on a show circuit, having received awards for its condition and upgrades. Finished in Victory Red over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, this second-generation Chevy II is now offered with documentation on the motor rebuild and a clear New York title in the seller's name.

Following an initial debut in 1962, the Chevy II Nova compact car moved into its next iteration for the 1966 model year and continued to ride on the General Motors X-body platform. The exterior was refreshed to include a semi-fastback roofline, an angular rear end, and vertical taillamps. This Nova hardtop from that model year was repainted Victory Red in 2009 as part of a restoration that retained a largely rust-free original body according to the seller. The body features a cowl-induction steel hood, and brightwork is in good condition for the bumpers, moldings, window surrounds, and side view mirrors.

Chrome five-spoke Boyd Coddington wheels are wrapped in General Max tires, running 17” up front and 18” in the rear. The front suspension was overhauled in 2020, including the installation of ceramic disc brakes.

The interior provides reupholstered black vinyl split-bench seating, along with color-matched lap belts, door panels, carpeting, and a padded dashboard with a Super Sport logo at the passenger side. The cabin received Ultramat sound deadening at the time of restoration, and additional features include a Hurst shift lever, a custom four-spoke steering wheel, and a push-button radio.

Instrumentation consists of a sweeping 120-mph speedometer, a column-mounted 8k-rpm Super Tach tachometer, and a fuel gauge. Additional aftermarket readouts are located below the center stack for oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads just under 6k miles, with true mileage on the chassis believed to be 106k.

The 383ci stroker V8 has been rated at approximately 450 horsepower and has accrued roughly 6k miles since a full rebuild was completed. The air filter canister, Turbo Fire chrome-finished valve covers, and manifold are original, but the majority of ancillary components have been rebuilt or replaced. Equipment includes a four-barrel Holley double-pumper carburetor, an MSD 6-2 ignition system, performance headers, a Griffin aluminum radiator and shroud, and a Flow master exhaust. The most recent service was performed in late 2020, which included an oil and filter change and suspension lube. The seller notes a small transmission fluid leak. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a rebuilt Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission and a 10-bolt Posi traction rear end with 3.55 gearing.
