For Sale: 1963 Ford F100 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1963 Ford F100 Pickup

F-Series models for 1963 included the F-100, F-250, and F-350, with four-wheel drive available on the F-100 and F-250. This would be the final year for Ford's integrated Styleside bed/cab design, which continued to be standard for all two-wheel drive Styleside trucks. Two-piece Styleside bed/cab trucks were optional, as were the Flareside beds, all of which could be had in 6.5 or 8-foot length. Standard and Custom were the two trim levels available, with Custom trucks offering enhanced trim and additional options. More minor styling changes came for 1963 as Ford designers seemed unable to leave the F-Series grille alone for more than a single model year. There was also very strong competition from Chevrolet at the time, which had introduced the C/K series in 1960 and had front-end styling that was curiously similar to the F-Series, both in design and the frequency for which it was changing.

For consignment, a well restored F100 that is in great shape on both the interior and exterior. Wonderful lines, good fit and finish, and some added Carrol Shelby stripes and decaling make this truck a unique way to promote your Shelby restoration business or tow your Shelby to the races, shows, or gatherings. This is a turnkey truck, meaning that you come in, purchase it, and drive the truck away with no additional work or effort on your end. Just go and start to show and enjoy!

Exterior
An off shade of Corinthian White covers the front 2/3rds of this flareside full frame pickup truck, (yes, unibody trucks were available during this era), and the bed section while white is just a shade off from the front. All gaps are well minded, and we see no rust. The new for 1963 grille assembly is flanked on either side by round headlights mounted into the edges of the grill. All this sits below a huge hood that has Shelby-esque decal stripes applied in classic Guardsman Blue. Fenders with just a touch of a bulbous design from days of yore flow back to almost squared off doors. The standard issue Cobra snake decal resides on the fenders and the CS & Shelby logoed stripe is applied down low. This stripe wraps around the cab and is picked back up on the front side of the bed. Pontoon fenders with Carroll Shelby autograph decals cover the wheels on this flareside bed and a spare tire is mounted on the driver's side in case of an errant flat. More Guardsman Blue stripes finish off the tailgate as does the Cobra snake and Shelby logo. A shout out to the bed which is lined with reddish oak stained boards and stainless steel slats. 15" white steel wheels with Ford dog dish caps and blackwall rubber round out the corners.

Interior
Long gone are the knee knocking doglegs in the door jambs and the doors open wide, what a well thought out upgrade! All white steel makes up the door panels with the only contrasts being black padded armrests, chrome door releases and window cranks. A gray vinyl covered bench seat, showing no runs, drips or errs sprawls from door to door and can accommodate 3 adults with ease. The original 3 spoke black plastic steering wheel front a basic and to the point white steel dashboard. Chrome and black knobs are present for lights, wipers and the heater controls. Only an ash receptacle and glove box door sit on the spartan passenger side of the dash. A clean black rubber mat covers the floors while a slightly wavy perforated board headliner hangs above. All truck and all business here.

Drivetrain
Within the confines of the cavernous engine bay resides a 223ci inline 6-cylinder, nicknamed the Cost Clipper by Ford, topped with a 1bbl carburetor and producing 145hp. The engine presents with a clean black block and an orange valve cover. A 3-speed manual transmission sends power back to a 3.89 geared rear axle assembly.

Undercarriage
Strong, solid and rust free is the summation underneath. A rust free black frame gives support for the black painted suspension components, leaf springs both front and rear, as well as the rust free floor pans which only show a few minor repairs. The rockers are solid as are the cab corners and supports. The underside of the wooden bed presents just as nicely as the top side and sets off all the back well. Single exhaust exhales through a stock style muffler while drum brakes are on all corners for the whoa factor.

Drivability
This truck fired right up with the turn of the key, and I was off like a prom dress. Acceleration was as expected from the inline 6, braking was solid and bias free, and the ride was very trucklike. All functions were working at the time of our drive, and I had a swimmingly good time receiving many thumbs up from passersby.

A well done and well sorted truck that will turn heads wherever you go thanks in part to Ford's classic styling and added bling in the form of Shelby livery. Taking a spot front and center in our South mallway here at the Classic Auto Mall, this one won't last long at all.
