For Sale: 1950 Mercury Lead Sled in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

Gorgeous, it has incredible fit and finish. This is a first class lead sled. They started with a 28,000 mile, original car with a clean Texas body. Same owner for 25 years. Professionally restored by Randy Church, a chop top specialist. We have a before picture and restoration pictures.

EXTERIOR: Dam this one looks good. Right away the quality is obvious. Talk about laser straight, there isn't a dimple or a wave. The gaps are incredibly precise too. Very tastefully customized and it's all metal. Obviously the top was chopped. The corners were rounded on the hood, doors and trunk. All emblems and most of the trim was removed and filled. Shaved door handles and trunk lock, they open remotely. The fuel door was leaded in, antenna was frenched. Jaguar headlights were frenched, custom frenched front turn signals. Custom scallops were sculpted in the hood. The fender skirts are flush mounted and the gap is impressive. The color is gorgeous. Painted with premium Glasurit products. It has 5 coats of color and 3 coats of clear blocked and polished like glass. We have paint codes and specific instructions how the car was painted which makes future touch up much easier. V-butt windshield and smoked glass. It's dressed up with dummy spotlights, Lake pipes and Cadillac Sombrero hubcaps. It is rolling on radial white wall tires. The original grill and chrome are real nice. Jambs are painted slick.

INTERIOR: Professionally done custom interior by Scott's upholstery. All new matching pleated upholstery on the seats, door panels and headliner. The carpet was custom made. The inside metal with painted as nice as the outside. It has a mostly original dash in beautiful condition. The gauges, knobs, steering are original in beautiful shape. It still uses the push button starter! A custom lower dash was made for the modern stereo, a/c vents and door openers. Inside the glove box are the controls for the air ride. The stereo system includes 4 round speakers and four 6x9 speakers. It was professionally rewired by Sachise Rod Shop.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Only 500 miles on a GM crate ZZ-4 350. It has a polished aluminum intake with a dual feed Holley carb that has an electric choke and HEI ignition system. The front of the motor has modern alternator, serpentine belt and pulley system. It has a modern heat and air conditioning system. An oversized radiator with a shroud and stainless steel upper hose keeps it running cool. The engine bay is clean metal painted satin black. The real unique attention getter is the copper plated set of finned valve covers, air cleaner and breathers.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Opens with a release under the bumper. It has been boxed and upholstered. The 2 stereo amplifiers are on display. The fuel filler is relocated inside the trunk.

UNDERSIDE: Stock frame, steering and suspension. There are a few upgrades including Ride Tech air ride. In front it has adjustable air bags replacing the springs, the shocks are new. In back it has new leaf springs with lowering blocks, new shocks and also adjustable air bags. It also has tubular rear control arms. Bottom of the motor still looks spotless, it has a high torque starter and a chrome flywheel cover. The trans is a fresh 700R-4 overdrive automatic with an external oil cooler. It has a new Ford 9 inch rear end. The custom exhaust system was neatly installed and has stainless hushpower mufflers. The floors are clean, solid metal painted satin black.

This chopped Merc is impressive in many ways but this body and paint blow me away! James Dean would be very proud. Roll up the Lucky Strikes in your t-shirt sleeve, go for a cruise and turn some heads.
