Vehicle Description
2000 Pontiac Trans Am
The 'Trans-Am series' is an automobile racing series that was
created in 1966 by Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) President John
Bishop. Originally known as the Trans-American Sedan Championship,
the name was changed to the Trans-American Championship for 1967
and henceforth. The series has in fact gone by a variety of
different names through the years (too many to list), some linked
to sponsors, some not. It has evolved over time from its original
format as a Manufacturers' Championship series for modified
passenger sedans and Coupes to its current form as a Drivers' /
Manufacturers' Championship Series that is open to GT style race
cars. Champion drivers have been officially recognized, and
Drivers' Championship(s) have been awarded since the 1972 season.
Despite its name, the Trans Am was not initially used in the Trans
Am Series, as its smallest engine exceeded the SCCA's five-liter
displacement limit. Pontiac paid a $5 license fee to SCCA for each
Trans Am sold to use the name.
For consignment an all white Trans Am. A virtually spotless car
with nary a scratch or ding to be seen, this car runs great and
flies like a screaming chicken! With only 25,554 miles this car is
barely broken in and ready for years of enjoyment.
Exterior
Bathed in Arctic White with the only deviation being the black
window trim and moldings. From the long low sloped hood, to the
window surrounds, belt line trim to rear spoiler, we see miles of
straight white that has panels that mind their gaps fairly well.
16" chrome wheels are on all 4 corners, and we can see shades of
dual chrome tipped dual exhaust peeking out from the rear bottom.
In true Pontiac form we see the honeycomb style taillights that
wrap around the rear of the car.
Interior
Popping off the smoked glass "T" tops we can venture inside to a
world of more curved surfaces in the form of black leather covered
power bucket seats up front and a dual bucket setup in the rear.
All this leather is in good condition showing slight wear on the
bolster areas. The buckets flank a sweeping forward black console
which houses a large glove box/armrest and the automatic shifter.
The undulating dash in black houses the instrument panel, a banging
Delco radio/CD player with equalizer and 10 Monsoon speakers
strategically placed to rock your world. This radio can be
controlled by the steering wheel so you can continue your cruise
while changing the tunes. Nice black carpet covers the floors.
Drivetrain
Opening the hood we see a 5.7 Liter V8 LS-1 mill. A 4-speed 4L60
automatic transmission helps light up the tires and a 10-bolt 2.73
posi rear axle and get you going, going, gone.
Undercarriage
Not unlike the top view, gazing underneath we see no rust that is
problematic. Floor pans, and unibody look very good and sound.
Stock single exhaust ending in the original muffler with dual tips
sends gasses out the back. A coil sprung independent suspension is
on the front while a torque arm with coil springs brings up the
rear. Power disc brakes adorn all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
Turning the key will ignite the candles immediately. This car has
plenty of power, rides very nicely, and has an ergonomically
comfortable interior setup for the driver. A flip of the traction
control switch and you get a whole different ride. Great airflow
without the glass t-top panels installed.
A very clean 25,000 mile car that is barely broken in. If you are
looking for a nice example of a Trans Am in a not often seen full
white treatment, look no further than the halls of Classic Auto
Mall, and this White Knight.
