Vehicle Description
Part roadster...part pickup...part factory retromod...and all the
way awesome. That's what makes this 2004 Chevrolet SSR such a great
modern classic. And so this low mileage and laded specialty machine
is a terrific find.
This SSR is one of those nicely preserved examples that has
obviously led a very good life in the hands of those who appreciate
a unique machine. After all, averaging less than 2k miles annually
means this car was driven more for pleasure than the daily grind.
That's why the factory Slingshot Yellow continues to look so
distinctive. And the clean body lines show how we can appreciate
how the SSR blended the iconic Advance Design pickups of the 40s
and 50s with modern fender flares and aggressive stance. And the
hint of silver highlights some of the best pieces, like the unique
grille that bisects the headlights, the retro-cool Chevrolet
lettering up front, the running boards, and even roll hoops. Plus,
you really notice the alloy wheels, and so it's easy to take notice
of the large and wider wheels that gave this a hot rod style stance
right from the factory.
With just the touch of a button, the folding hardtop disappears
behind the seats. This reveals the black leather interior, and
let's face it, there's arguably no better combination for a bold
total package than black and yellow. And more than just look
sporty, this has all the right performance-oriented features for
both the new and vintage lovers. For example, the dual bucket seats
with a waterfall of color in-between remind us instantly of the
first-generation Corvette, and the grippy steering wheel has all
the right modern fingertip controls. All of this looks terrific
today because this SSR has been treated with respect since day one.
This also means that the long list of features is still in perfect
working order. It includes keyless entry, power locks, power seats,
power mirrors, and a Bose AM/FM/CD stereo system that fills the
little cockpit with sound at any speed. While the covered and
locking bed is large enough to carry really big stuff, it's
beautifully finished with carpet and wood. In fact, it's really
just an extremely spacious trunk. Plus, a modern classic means
modern safety features like dual front airbags, side airbags, and
ABS. But the feature we think you'll like the most is the power
windows. Combined with the power top, it means you never have to
leave the driver's seat to go from coupe-like luxury to a
wind-in-you-hair experience. And since this has cold-blowing air
conditioning and heated seats, you can take the top down on a hot
summer day or a crisp fall evening.
The key to the SSR's performance is a 5.3-liter V8. This motor is
related to GM's truck line, but it also has some lightweight
performance characteristics, which seems like the perfect blend for
this pickup/roadster. There are plenty of performance upgrades
available for those who want to take it to the extreme, but with
300 hp already on tap, it would be a bit of a shame altering a car
that's been so carefully maintaining its numbers-matching
powerhouse. Turn the key and it starts instantly; the idle is
smooth; and the dual exhaust hums around town like a Camaro with a
bed. The four-speed automatic transmission w/overdrive is perfect
for in-town or on the highway. Plus, with four-wheel disc brakes
and a suspension built more for handling than hauling, you'll never
get tired of driving this truck.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual, a dash pad, and
bed storage wells. The SSR is fast, fun, and unique. Now is your
time to get this future classic while it's irresistibly affordable.
