Vehicle Description
2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8
Enjoy it now, muscle fans, because these are truly the golden days
of horsepower. When you can buy a 425 horsepower Challenger SRT8
with a 6-speed manual transmission right off the showroom floor,
take it to the track and run low 13s on street tires, then drive it
home in air-conditioned comfort, you are saying something. With gas
prices inching up, cars like these will soon end up on the
endangered species list, so picking one up now while the getting is
good is to your advantage.
Up for grabs to be plucked right out of our hallowed halls, we give
you a 2009 Challenger SRT8. Our Consignor states it has the power
of a Hellcat and has Dyno'd @ 580hp. This is achieved with a
Procharger supercharger, Comp Cams camshaft and a Billet timing
set. A race car that can be used on the track to eat the
competition up, then drive it home in A/C comfort!
Exterior
The white hat boys did a great job when they came up with the
brainchild of reintroducing a classic muscle car design but with a
more modern aero twist. Shades of the cars of yore though, with the
stretched oval front grille with dual duals, integrated body
matching bumper and a chin spoiler. The hood has a slight bump up
with a T shape that includes 2 openings on the top side of the T
for easier breathing. The sides of the car use a painted on solid
ever widening spear culminating in a badged back panel that states
"Procharged". On the back the throwback design of a totally
encompassing horizontal tail lighting system stretching from rear
quarter to rear quarter. A small satin black spoiler is on the rear
end of the short trunk deck, and below peeking out from under the
rear roll pan are wide dual exhaust tips. 5 percent tinted windows
are in, and on all 4 corners are aftermarket Hellcat 20-inch
wheels.
Interior
Inside, the styling is a mix of old and new, remarkable for keeping
everything in roughly the same place as the Dodge Charger while
adding a unique personality and looking more upscale. It manages to
carry off some suede inserts in the center of the molded door
panels. Thin chrome bands highlight the four big cascading white
faced gauges. As an SRT8, this car includes a "performance gauges"
feature which provides the driver with performance data, including
zero to sixty times, quarter and eighth mile times, g-forces, (both
peak and instant), gas mileage, and braking distance. The dash
front is made up of faux carbon fiber plastic and it gets pulled
off by using a thin pattern mesh. The SRT8 naturally comes with a
nice sounding music system complete with a CD Player. Overhead,
there's a bin that holds sunglasses, and two dome lights; the
day/night mirror is automatic, and a universal garage door opener
is built in. Seats use charcoal leather for the bolsters and suede
inserts, and run the center is a pistol grip shifter.
Drivetrain
If you're a fan of whiplash-inducing torque and smoky burnouts,
this particular SRT8 is the perfect tool for the job. The 6.1-liter
Hemi V8 produces a towering consignor stated 580 horsepower. BUT
for added enjoyment, when you want to get goosey with the boot, a
Procharger P1SC-1 supercharger has been strapped on, along with
Comp Cams featuring a 268H XFI Camshaft. For that extra hot 93
octane explosion a Billet timing set is on. On the back is a Tremec
TR6060 6-Speed manual transmission and a 3.73 rear axle.
Undercarriage
Of course any self-respecting daily driver to get the groceries
come street fighter would look great underneath and this car does
not disappoint. Still sporting the factory overspray on the floor
pans solid rust free and jet black painted independent suspension
for front and rear, and power disc brakes all around we are ready
to roll. Oh, and lest I forget, long tube headers with a
free-flowing dual exhaust are snaking their way to the back of the
car.
Drive-Ability
It fires ups with a mighty roar, and off to the test track with
lightning speed we go. Of course you can experience the G force
inducing acceleration, great handling and boas free panic stopping
you'd expect, but with all the comforts of home for that long
Sunday cruise. All functions were just working swimmingly.
In the end, it turns out, this modern Challenger is vastly superior
to its vintage namesake, with a fully independent suspension,
massive Brembo disc brakes, and sophisticated traction control
systems all working to extract every bit of performance from the
tires. As with the rest of this car, the chassis is in factory
fresh condition, and that extra power is nothing to shake a stick
at. I have the look of love in my eyes.
