For Sale: 1966 Ford Thunderbird in Alamo, California

Vehicle Description

1966 Ford Thunderbird convertible was built at the Wixom, Michigan plant on Dec. 20, 1965, and delivered to Freeman Ford in New Jersey.  It was delivered in Brittany Blue but was changed by the last owner to Sapphire Blue with the Parchment and Blue interior.  Power comes from the original recently professionally rebuilt 390 CID Z code V8 paired with a recently rebuilt C6 automatic transmission, driving the final Limited Slip Differential.

Additional original equipment includes factory A/C that has recently been upgraded with new compressor and condenser to R134 specs.  Also included are power windows, power driver’s seat, AM/FM radio with rear speaker, tinted glass, safety convenience panel and a recently replaced white convertible top from Robbins Auto Top. Kelsey Hayes chrome wire wheels with color correct (dark blue) center caps are also installed mounted with new Cooper Trendsetter white sidewall tires with less than 1K on them.

The current owner acquired the car in 2012 and has had the engine, transmission, drive shaft, brakes, complete exhaust including mufflers, suspension (front and rear) all replaced or rebuilt.  The engine has been converted to electronic with Petronix along with all the belts and hoses being replaced.  Carburetor has been overhauled along with new battery replacement and a new high output alternator.  The headlights have been upgraded to halogens also.

Included in the books and records are copies of the original build sheet showing and copies of the original window sticker, a full factory workshop manual, multiple additional manuals, info sheets for the car and many receipts.

The owner replaced the drivers floor section and installed dynamat style sound deadening material, and then new carpet.  The rest of the interior is original and has minor wear and tear but is presentable.  There is a small tear on the drivers seat, some cracks in the door cards but otherwise in serviceable condition.

A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation that includes a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and four rectangular auxiliary gauges in spherical housings. The ohmmeter and seat belt warning light are inop and the AC needs to be serviced. There are some minor rust bubbles in certain areas, noted in the pictures.  There is also a very slight chip in the windshield, almost unnoticeable..  The paint is in overall very good condition with some touchups noted in the pictures.  Protection is provided by Griots Ceramic 3 in 1 wax.

The five-digit odometer shows just under 70,000 miles and the current owner has put on appx 10,000 of those since his purchase in 2012.

The car has won numerous awards with the most significant from the 20th Annual Thunderbirds on the Santa Cruz Wharf class win in 2017 and many “participants choice” awards.
